The bloody VOICE!!!
Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 12:51 AM by canetoad
Belatedly doing my homework and watching the Gibson interview. Forget the content (or lack thereof), the only things I hear are nasality, rising inflections, strange and arbitrary emphasis on words and, and......NUKULAR

1. Why do people here never complain about men's voices?
I would take this more seriously except I heard it so many times about Hillary.

It's a typical Park Ridge, Illinois accent, flat vowels and all.

40. Except for lapses during an occasional trip down south, she is consistently
a Chicago area person in her accent. Never the northeast.

Many people find themselves slipping into a southern accent when they visit there.

Why are we still dumping on Hillary, by the way? Don't we still need her -- and her supporters?

and its not the southern thing either because I grew up and still live in the south.

I know I've complained about their voices too.

Palin's voice is just plain horrible.

Also, the voices and accents of so many other Republican senators. O Mi God. Oh, jesus.

Is there anything worse? Republicans are such ugly people. Ugly in manner, ugly in attitude, ugly in vocal expressions, ugly in "vallyuhs" (values) and dumb as mud.

People with ugly world views are almost uniformly ugly in all their traits, thoughts, expressions, appearances. It can never successfully be concealed.

Reagan's condescending tone drove me nuts.

Good voices and bad cut across both sexes. Hillary's isn't particularly good. It doesn't mean there aren't women with good voices. McWar's voice sucks. Doesn't mean there aren't men with good voices.

39. The sound of Bush's voice makes me want to scream
The way he mangles the language is far worse than his fake Texas drawl which he's so proud of. He tries to use big words but even when they're written in very large letters he still manages to fumble them. Chertoff's voice is nerve wracking too. Rumsfeld's voice is brittle and sarcastic and I'm glad he's no longer doing his crappy immitation of being a human being on TV. Sean Hannity is shrill and hits you like machine gun bullets. Swartzennegger's limited vocabulary and thick accent makes you wonder why he hasn't dropped some of that accent after all these years. It makes me think he's too lazy to pronounce words that he hears on a daily basis. He can't pronounce the 'th' in that. It still comes out as 'dat'.

18. She's "Unmodulated"
Greetings my Ozzie friend...

I worked with voices and she exhibits some real bad habits...mostly relegated to sportscasters. They can't adjust the volume or tone well...a very strident cadence...better used for yelling over loud crowds than in dealing with a one-on-one. That's why she "killed" at the convention, but was awful on this interview. A boss I had used to call this delivery "em-fasize-zing the wrong syl-lie-bal". She's also very scripted...got those talking points down solid...and when she's knocked off balance, her instinct is to run for the talking point...attempt to turn or dominate the conversation. I'm sure it works great on a kid on the local Anchorage station, but it doesn't play well on the national stage.

Cheers...

'owyagoin moite?

You're dead right about the talking points. Can't remember which it was but Gibson asked a question and off she went. Completely different topic, no relationship to the question. Given that I don't deal with any particular US accents on a regular basis, is that strange way of emphasising seemingly random words in a sentence usual? Alaskan?

28. Someone Called It "Fargoese"
After the movie...a bit of Canadian with a touch of lumberjack.

Honestly, I think a lot of it is just poor habits...pushed forward by years of rotary club and church meetings. She's not thinking in a fluid fashion...kinda like a computer hard drive that runs out of memory and has to constantly reset. You can just see that hard-drive wheel spinning and not sure where it's at or looking for.

Many of these people, especially the women, are taught to be assertive and "loud". Look at the ones you see spinning...they win through intimidation and modulation (especially if they don't have facts). I predict that in the debates that will be her downfall. She'll be combative and defensive while Senator Biden with all his experience will school her like a cuddly college professor.

Her voice is definitely not "natural"...but then this lady is way out of her league right now.

Cheers...and ahoy!!

:smoke:

That was horrid!! I wish Charlie would have followed up his question about Ukraine and Georgia being admitted to NATO with a simple..."Why?" I think we would have seen her head explode. "Does not compute...Does not compute...Does, does,..boom!! Then she tried to back away from her "God's plan" quote. Her dominionist friends probably did not like that too much.

She couldn't even hit the softballs they lobbed at her. I can't wait for the debate. I know they get some of the questions before hand, but she can't stand up to Joe's on the spot questions. The fembot will self destruct. Or...maybe she'll get mono until November 4th?
