YouTube Bans Violence-Inciting Videos
San Bruno, CA (AHN) - In response to criticism from Sen. Joseph Lieberman, YouTube is prohibiting video submissions that may incite viewers to violence.
YouTube Community Guidelines already prohibit posting of videos that show animal abuse, drug abuse, bomb making, graphic or gratuitous violence and someone getting hurt, attacked or humiliated.
Early this year Lieberman submitted a list of videos that had graphic violence or hate speech, which he requested Google, YouTube's owner, to delete. Videos that had logos of al-Qaeda and affiliated groups were taken off the Web. But some were retained because the videos did not go against the portal's guidelines. With an explicit policy against inciting to violence, some of the items on the senator's list may finally be yanked off.
Ricardo Reyes, YouTube spokesman, acknowledged the popular website which has millions of hits for some postings was used by Islamist terrorist groups to recruit and train followers and incite terrorist attacks around the world.
