Alright, I hate to admit it, but I've been pretty pessimistic lately. What do you guys REALLY think will happen if McCain gets elected?

1. Don't worry about it.
It probably doesn't hurt.

4. First, there's a presidential funeral
Everyone is worried about McCain's health. I can assure you that the people who inserted Palin into the process -- LeHaye, Dobson, Norquist, and Oliver North -- will have no qualms about using more tried and true methods to get her into the top spot.

Make no mistake. As we discuss this, there is a "lone, crazed gunman" being groomed somewhere to A) think he took down McCain and B) be blamed for it and C) either be crazy (Sirhan) or deceased (Oswald).

Then, the traitors who are trying to destroy American democracy will have the perfect puppet in power.

Life will not be pleasant. The best we can hope for is a popular uprising -- however, as each day goes by, they are more prepared for that.

12. I've been an "active resister" for about 50 years now
Civil rights, Vietnam, Gay right, AIDS, anti-war in general, you name it. I'm too old to do this any more. It was easier when it looked like we were making a difference. I think we have a long way to go before we bottom out on this one, and people start to react. I'm looking for ways out -- I have been doing research for the last few weeks. I think I have a plan.

But for those who do consider active resistance, your options are becoming more limited by the day.

The people behind this have a playbook -- none of this is an accident. They know that a popular uprising is possible -- and they have been preparing for it.

14. Are options limited
due to aggressive efforts at domestic surveillance, or is it something else? And what options are there?

17. They done a lot of things
Peaceful protestors at the RNC are being charged under terrorism laws. The Patriot Act makes almost anything they don't like an act of terrorism. They've learned how to deal with mass demonstrations, as we saw at the start of the war. Police are now using not only tasers, but in at least one city, APCs with machine guns. Domestic surveillance and infiltration of protestor groups is common again. They can also tap phones, email, etc., with impunity.

Plus, there are a score of executive orders that can turn the country into an armed camp in about 15 minutes. These allow the president to seal borders, seize all means of communication (including ISPs), seize all transportation, round up citizens and hold them without charges or trial. The justification for invoking these, according to the orders, can be "widespread civil protest." All of these orders are already on the books, waiting for the president to invoke them. The orders also provide that none of the orders can be reviewed by the courts or the Congress for at least six months.

8. Well I can't really say for sure but
I would start thinking about a bomb shelter.
bush has succeeded in making the world a much more dangerous place and to then have a president that is impulsive as Mc Same scares the shit out of me. and that is if he doesn't kick the bucket and leave us whit a president that wants Armageddon.

10. Ten billion a month continuing to flow to Iraq
Greater and greater amounts of tax revenue feeding the U.S. military. More deficits, as McCain won't put taxes on the top earners. Jobs continuing to flow out of the United States. Gridlock between the President and Congress leading to a crescendo of divisiveness. No healthcare proposals going past his desk. Intense political fights in the Senate as McCain sends U.S. Supreme Court nominees to them for approval. I see chaos and exteme divisiveness, as McCain knuckles under to the base that elected him and refuses to work with Democrats to get things done. I don't see McCain acting like the moderate maverick who challenges his own party that he promises to be.

I've actually contemplated that. It would suck in a lot of ways, but I'm not sure what the tipping point would be.

19. It's hard to know for sure
Clearly Hoover is what everyone has in mind. McCain can't possibly solve the problems he faces, because he embraces the solutions that actually caused the problems. However the Democrats may have sizable advantages in both houses. So it's unlikely a McCain presidency will total dissolve into the first 6 years of the Bush presidency. It's not like the last 2 years have been that great though. There's only so much a Democratic congress can do.

It's no doubt like Bush I, McCain may have no choice but try to do unRepublican things like raise taxes. In the end most likely McCain will leave office with the country in vastly worse shape than it is today. McCain has no interest in long term goals such as new energy sources, revitalizing schools, health care... well basically the programs that created a strong economy and a middle class in the US. The class getting killed by Bushes policies may be extinct by mid century. The supreme court will be solidly pro-corporation rights, anti-individual rights. Which will make turning things around before 2025 even less likely. Clearly the USA as the worlds lone super power will be long gone by then. (it's gone now).
