1. HOW long did they have to evacuate?
Yes, any risk/loss of human life has some degree of tragedy attached to it, but this is kinda a Darwin thing.

2. Some folks in Crystal Beach were planning to evac early this morning and were already surrounded.
All packed, did everything right, woke up early this morning and were surrounded by 6 feet of water as far as the eye could see.

I feel terrible for them.

4. Looks like they might have to redraw the maps after Ike.
I can't imagine those barrier islands surviving this with no shoreline changes. Like you, I feel terrible for those who are trapped, and even for those who foolishly refused to leave. I know some were terrified of being trapped on the highway like after Rita...

5. We don't know their circumstances
For all we know, they were being Good Samaritans up until that point.

6. Might not have had transportation, or were old or sick or had a lot of animals.

8. As soon I heard the warning, I would have been gone, even walked if I had to.

9. You would probably still be walking between Galveston and Houston
maybe on the bridge off the Island - not a real smart place to be during a hurricane. Also, I assume you don't have a 70 year old mother with a bad hip who is going to walk with you? I won't judge those who may die in the path of the hurricane without knowing why they stayed behind.
