My report from houston
So far no serious wind where I am at. Very cloudy sky. Power is still ok. Kind of anxious to see what happens a few hours from now.

2. Where are you in Houston?
I'm in The Woodlands. No rain yet, wind equivalent to a day in March. Power is still on.

19. No, he is southwest of Houston, we are pretty directly north
He is probably a bit on the west side of the storm which is good.

4. Please keep us posted, will you?
This hurricane is kind of a question mark, as far as the impact on Houston, isn't it?

I had MSNBC on in the background all day today, and I kept thinking that if I was in
Houston, I would be a bit frustrated. They couldn't give a definite answer on how
Houston would fare.

The storm surge sounds really horrific for the Galveston and surrounding coastal
areas. ...and to think that only half of those people evacuated...boggles the mind!

I hope you are hunkered down and that you have everything you need to stay safe.

Are you with friends or family?

6. I would think that you are far enough away...
However, I'm not keeping up as much with the forecast outside of Galveston, Fort Bend (my parents are there), and Harris counties, so I don't really know. Stay safe! I hear that some are already losing power. Good luck.

7. Hey
I'm just north of you (The Woodlands). Stay safe. I have some people staying with us from Clear Lake.

Let's hope the bark is worse than the bite for Ike.

9. I hope that you all stay safe!
The weather channel is showing mild flooding in parts of Houston. I have candles lit and hoping for the best for all in Ike's path. That's about all that I can do from SE TN.

11. Be sure to watch that radar image on weather underground so you
know when the worst is about to hit your neighborhood........while you have power.

13. I'm in Montrose near downtown ...

We've had a few gusts here that were probably in the 30-40mph range. Steady around 10-20. Depending on where this thing tracks, you may actually get stronger winds up there than I will.

Power fluctuated once so far. Battery backup kept the computer from crashing, but it'll only last 10 minutes or so with the monitor, so I'll be signing off soon.

Got water and food, both for me and the kitteh, so we should be good. Not looking forward to the power outages, though. That's going to suck hard in the days ahead.

Had a couple run-ins this morning with some hurricane conspiracy theorists who irritated me to no end, so I've avoided DU most of the day. Wanted to stop in for a bit before I can't for awhile.

Hope all those people who stayed in Galveston found someplace to be.

Stay safe.

14. My parents and sister...
Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 07:32 PM by TTUBatfan2008
evacuated from Baytown to my aunt's house in Pasadena. They also went and got my grandma from League City, which is right by Seabrook (a town that is already underwater). My parents said that one of the Houston news channels showed video from Roseland Park in Baytown. It is right by Cedar Bayou (which feeds straight into the Houston Ship Channel and Galveston Bay) and around a 2 minute drive from my parents' house, and the park is already underwater. The good thing is my parents have already paid off their house so moving would not be that big of a deal for them. They got my sister and I through college and both of us have good jobs.

15. I'm over in Kingwood
parts of this area lost power about 2 hours ago. We're just having strong gusty winds but still have power. Kids, dogs and cats are all safe here. Keep in touch everyone. Stay safe.

17. Same here.
Near the Reliant Center.

Fast moving clouds, but with gaps. No rain yet. Steady wind with gusts.

On the bright side, if Ike goes the way it looks to be going, we'll have the eye over us. Of course, that means probably getting the strongest winds, first from one direction, then from another, but I've never been in the eye of a hurricane.

Too bad it's likely to be in the middle of the night.

That reminds me. I should get some towels to pad windowsills and doors.

18. North of Houston
Wind gusts have picked up considerably in the past couple of hours, but not a drop of rain yet. Seems so strange to have all that hot (82 degrees), humid wind with no rain. Still have power.

Hope they are wrong about how much of Galveston will end up submerged. There are way too many people who stayed there.
