Stay safe and keep in touch here, if you're able. Many DUers are thinking about you, I'm sure.

|
are getting 'really' strong here. I haven't seen any big things flying by luckily/yet. Some assholes are shooting off fireworks. When it gets dark, I think I'm hanging up going outside; I have this vision of someone's head being lobbed off from flying metal. (I think that every time I see an idiotic reporter outside in a hurricane-it's gonna happen)

Doesn't sound too safe to be on a roof during a hurricane, but what do I know? Anyway, I hope they survive.

who decided to stay in Galveston, even though there's been a mandatory evacuation since yesterday, I told my husband, I know everybody thinks I'm a royal bitch for saying this, but if they're that damn stupid, I don't think anyone should risk their own lives to save them!

29. But, I was looking through a slide show earlier, and saw |
|
a 15 yr. old with a strange look on his face, and a Dad with his 13 yr. old son in the waves crashing across the sea wall in Galveston, along with pets that people left. I'm really heartbroken about the kids and animals who most likely will be victims of the older humans decisions. The same slide show also showed kids who are 3 and 4 yrs. old.
Kids and animals shouldn't have to die because of the older folks decisions, AFAIC. Sad to me.

Not sure if that means 9pm east coast time, 9pm Texas time. The surge is still a few hours out yet. Lets just say it doesn't look good for these people. But I will keep them in my prayers.

It's too windy for airlift and if the ground is flooded, no vehicles can get through. We'll just have to wait 'til the morning to find out the true story on what's happening.

it helps to have faith and to have a group.
There was a story recently about a man and his autistic son who were lost in the ocean- the man had a religious medal on his chest - the two became separated and were in the water for hours overnight. The man was picked up in the morning only because of a religious medal on his chest which reflected the sun. After a few hours his teenaged autistic child was picked up- he had no fear of death because he is incapable of understanding it, so he didn't become exhausted.

Yes, they are crazy for staying (if they were able to evac) and yes, their belief system and world view is strange and in my opinion, crazy, but these are human beings. I dont' give a damn what their religion, race, sexual orientation, political affliation, etc. are - they deserve mercy and best wishes from any decent, civil human being.
Sure, they might not give the same consideration to many who they condemn, but it doesn't mean we have to stoop to that level. Holy shit, this stuff isn't even funny and I'm appalled that many are making fun of these people.

I understand many peoples disdain for many of their actions, but this isn't the time to be laughing at these people and their predicament.
To be laughing at these people, I just can't describe it. It's the same thing as Freepers laughing at the "colored folk" stuck on their roofs during Katrina. Classless and downright pathetic.

43. There are no rescues tonight - period. Until the storm clears the area. |
|
I agree, they are putting not only themselves, but rescuers in severe danger. But that's what rescuers do and if I were a rescuer, I don't care what they are - they deserve to be rescued and saved from this thing. No life - not matter how much we hate them or despise their values - is worth sacrificing like this.
We don't know for sure if they are fundys or perhaps just a couple church-goers who stayed behind to help shelter others. Regardless, it doesn't matter.

41. I would reserve judgement. |
|
Even though they wouldn't hesitate to judge us. They may have any number of reasons for being on a church roof, would we be making fun of these people if they were on a school roof?
I wouldn't hesitate to save a drowning fundie if I could, even if all I had to do was turn my back and no one would ever know. They might not do the same for me, but that's their loss. Having to live with that contempt in your heart is an everyday punishment.

45. Though the situation isn't funny, I can't help but think of this joke.... |
|
A religious man is on top of a roof during a great flood. A man comes by in a boat and says "get in, get in!" The religous man replies, " no I have faith in God, he will grant me a miracle."
Later the water is up to his waist and another boat comes by and the guy tells him to get in again. He responds that he has faith in god and god will give him a miracle. With the water at about chest high, another boat comes to rescue him, but he turns down the offer again cause "God will grant him a miracle."
With the water at chin high, a helicopter throws down a ladder and they tell him to get in, mumbling with the water in his mouth, he again turns down the request for help for the faith of God. He arrives at the gates of heaven with broken faith and says to Peter, I thought God would grand me a miracle and I have been let down." St. Peter chuckles and responds, "I don't know what you're complaining about, we sent you three boats and a helicopter."
