1. I believe it - we are over $5/gal here on the Eastern end of the state and running out
It's been a rough afternoon here in the Tri-Cities. Lines, skyrocketing prices, and no idea when a resupply is coming.

3. I can.
When I read the wholesale price on DU this morning, we went and filled up both cars and our three gas cans. There was about a 10 minute line then. (Southern New Jersey.)

I understand the lines in town have been a lot longer in the past few hours. We'll see what prices look like in the morning.

4. I just heard that some oil wells are in the line of Hurricane Ike and may be destroyed.
Could this have anything to do with the long lines?

9. Possibly but the drill drill drill vote
is next week and someone fueled this panic starting in South Carolina. Remember there wasn't even a flicker in the price during Gustav a day before the convention) and remember the oil men were 'representing' at the Convention.

13. Not so much that as the refineries ...

You've got a significant percentage of the nation's gas supply refined in or around Houston. The pipeline east has been shut down. The refineries themselves aren't refining at the moment, and it's a question of when they'll go back online.

7. Yep, I just talked to a friend that traveled home from Jacksonville FL to St. Augustine.
No lines, but every station she stopped at was out of fuel. Finally found a station that only had super premium left. Paid $3.89 a gal.

12. I'm in NY
We both have the advantage of living in the two states that are the last to see the brunt of such things. Gas has gone up about 20c a gallon here in upstate NY. No actual lines but a full steady stream of cars coming and going. We will see the hit tomorrow evening or so I would predict.

15. Check your state's laws about price gouging
At least 13 states — Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia — have laws that specifically address price gouging in the event of a declared emergency. Other states may exercise authority under general deceptive trade practice laws depending on the nature of the state law and the specific circumstances under which price increases occur.

http://www.kipesquire.net/2005/09/which-states-have-pri... /

NC and AL have put laws into effect. Call if someone is gouging. It may not help immediately, but it may stop it some.

Save your receipts. Inform the places where you get gas you are reporting them. Report it now so it won't keep skyrocketing.

It won't help the supply right now, but it should help the price.

17. My husband filled up this morning on his way to work. No lines but he noticed this.
All three grades were the same price, $3.55/gal. He commented to a woman who noticed the same thing, "might as well fill up with the good shit." :spray:

18. Drill, baby drill!
Wonder if this will highlight the pitfalls of an energy plan based almost entirely on offshore drilling.

Yeah, probably not.

19. Just drove from coastal AL to near Boston.
Arrived yesterday afternoon.
Nothing unusual coming up through TN, VA, PA, NY, & MA.
Except (now that I think about it)...
We stayed Thurs. night in Scranton.
3 filling stations on corners of one intersection.
Citgo and Shell were closed.
Valero was open.

Now I wonder if we can get home.
Not leaving for a couple of weeks, so I hope things will be back to 'normal' by then.
