Analysis: Palin receiving 9x the press coverage of Biden
Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 10:18 PM by villager
<snip>

The night before Obama announced his vice presidential choice August 23, the press staked out Biden's Delaware home and gave minute-by-minute updates of his every movement.

But then Sen. John McCain picked telegenic and nationally unknown Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate, and the press corps traveling with Biden's campaign dwindled to a skeleton crew.

An index released by the LexisNexis Analytics 2008 election dashboard showed Palin received nine times the media coverage that her counterpart did during the first week of September, which included the Republican National Convention. Video Watch analysts weigh in on Biden vs. Palin »

On Wednesday, Palin's staff told the press corps traveling with the governor her plane had become too heavy, and asked for volunteers to fly commercial.

There's plenty of room on Biden's plane. At one point this week, only six reporters climbed aboard. But they got one thing the press traveling with Palin didn't: access to the candidate.

1. She got a lot more than 9x the coverage, I haven't seen any
coverage on Biden in like two weeks.

4. Biden should talk to Bill Richardson.
Have him start the VP debate with, "Well, in light of the vast majority of media coverage, I guess I'll need to introduce myself...my name's Joe Biden, and I'm the Democratic Party's vice presidential nominee."

5. "which included the Republican National Convention"
That makes this 'analysis' somewhat flawed, yes? This is what McCain wanted anyway, a media sensation.

6. Biden and Obama rarely get much less coverage
I agree. I have rarely seen anything on Biden. Only some on Obama. This is explained on the Bill Moyers Program tonight on CBS. It was on the media. It also talked about why this is and besides the fact Palin is stupid, McCain draws only about 200 people... they appear together and the media gets twofers. They create sensationalist scenarios which is what the media is told to get to get the ratings.

8. The more interview time Palin gets, the better for Obama and Bidden.
Her naive and bullshit answers are not helping McCain's chances. I predict that Palin Mania will soon
subside.

9. Well, OF COURSE she did! She's...
the first female VP candidate since Geraldine Ferrarro

been shooting wolves from airplanes-- like it or not, that's different

hot-- don't deny it just because she has wierd ideas. She's Hot!

from Alaska, which is almost as good as from Mars (Did she ever live in an igloo?)

giving everyone a good excuse to talk about moose

As Gail Collins said in the Times the other day-- if she was a deer hunting soccer mom from New Jersey, nobody would give a shit about her

So, let everyone have their fun and we'll get back to as serious stuff as we ever get to in an election year soon enough.

10. In PR terms, she's now a "lightning rod"
And reporters LOVE a good disaster story.

Now if only they could get her "on the record"....
