Japan leads the world in broadband speed! America ranks ... [SIGNAL LOST] ...
Japan Leads Broadband Study, U.S. Ranks 16th

The study predicts that download speeds of 11.25 Mbps and upload speeds of 5 Mbps will be necessary for good Internet experiences in a few years.

Japan has a comfortable lead in supplying robust broadband technology to its citizens even as global Internet users in all countries continue to demand more and more from their high-speed connections, according to a survey released Friday by Cisco (NSDQ: CSCO).

The United States ranks 16th in the survey, edging 17th-place Russia, but following countries with emerging economies like Latvia, Lithuania, and Slovenia.

Boy are those 15 countries ahead of us stoopid!

They obviously arent making as much money off their customers as the US broadband companies when they needlessly spend all that money improving the speed their customers are getting.

:sarcasm:

3. I pay $52.00 for verizon Fios 15Mbps down / 2Mbps up
Not too shabby. Of course its a totally different ballgame in the sticks. Not sure how to solve that problem though. Not enough of a return on investment for providers. Although Verizon's primary push for FIOS is that they are removing all their old copper infrastruture to goto all fiber. Less maintance cost.

4. US prices are also far higher than Japan, for that minority here who have it.
2003 data from: http://adsl-cable.net/guide/costs.html

An interesting 3rd graph would multiply the 2nd graph data by the percent of households with broadband.
