Gas price gouging - check your state's laws-stop it now.

At least 13 states — Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia — have laws that specifically address price gouging in the event of a declared emergency. Other states may exercise authority under general deceptive trade practice laws depending on the nature of the state law and the specific circumstances under which price increases occur.

NC and AL have put laws into effect. Call if someone is gouging. It may not help immediately, but it may stop it some.

Save your receipts. Inform the places where you get gas you are reporting them. Report it now so it won't keep skyrocketing.

2. All for an internet rumor
I work at an oil refinery far from the path of Ike

We had several ships in last week, 1 I think was a "Super-Tanker" and filled all the crude tanks to maximum storage capacity in advance of Ike making landfall.

They might have to truck the gasoline a little further

He does a lot of refinery work. He told me that after Katrina, they shut down a refinery because of the hurricane.

4. In NJ...
It is unlawful to change the price of gasoline at a station more than once per day. Gas stations at rest areas on highway authority roads (Garden State Parkway, NJ Turnpike) can only change prices once per week. You can submit a complaint online here: http://www.nj.gov/lps/ca/ocp/gasform.htm

6. Gas here in VA jumped by over $1 a gallon today.
The ONE place in our area that didn't raise their prices today covered the Regular and Premium pumps and were only selling Super-Premium-- which was still ninety cents cheaper per galllon than any gas anywhere else.
