6. The strongest part of the surge hasn't even hit yet. |
|
As the eye passes the winds will shift direction and that will create an even bigger surge and faster winds.

11. OK, Hurricane 101 - lesson 1 |
|
The word "hurricane" has it's origins in the language of the Caribe aboriginals (pre-colombian inhabitants of the Carribean), and then was adopted into spanish and english languages.

|
Edited on Sat Sep-13-08 02:35 AM by Bryn
or something like that. I read it somewhere.
Edit: Found the book
'In Central and South America and the Caribbean there was a dragon called Huracan; hurricanes were named after him.' From "Dancing with Dragons" by D.J. Conway.

|
http://www.khou.com/video/?nvid=178826&live=yes&noad=yesHas good live stream coverage. The reporter at the scene said the only way you know there IS a seawall there is when a wave looks extra bumpy (as it passes over the seawall that is under the water)

26. My family home is in Bacliff, TX |
|
About fifteen minutes north of Galveston. We're supposed to be the highest elevation in Galveston County, but that's not saying much. I'm sure I'm going to lose it. And it is NOT insured, because it won't pass specs. It's old, had a fight with termites at one time, not in the best shape. I grew up in it, my son and my mother and father spent their last days in it. It's going to break my heart to lose it.
And, you know, I woke up at exactly 3:12 am, when the hurricane was making landfall. I have a bad feeling.
