I'm starting to get a lot of phone calls for political donations and surveys. |
|
I realize I'm on several lists because of being registered as a Democrat and the various donations I've made.
But it irritates me all the same. I donate what I can, when I can. And I don't care for the arm twisting or guilt trips to donate more. My feeling is, "don't call me, I'll call you."
I just hate this part of every election season. Today some volunteer gave me a ration of horse shit to donate more NOW, when I could not. And it makes me feel like I'd prefer to donate anonymously, so they'd quit calling me.
I'm just a cranky old fart, I guess. And it's a small price to pay to get Obama in the White House this year.

1. Oh I totally understand. |

It took me forever to convince the Red Cross that I would donate blood when I had the time to come by but before I successfully managed to convince them of that, I was getting phone calls day and night. I can't even begin to imagine what an universal donor (O-) goes through.
For me, I prefer it if the Obama campaign only emails or texts me because it's not as intrusive as phone calls.

4. Oh, I used to get the Red Cross calls A LOT! |
|
They like me because I am negative for the Epstein Barr virus, or some damned thing like that.
I don't even understand how they get my phone number, because it is under my mother's name.
Kinda scary to realize so much information is shared, don't you think?

I'm a lifelong democrat - but I wrote the Obama camp and the DNC my thoughts. First, start doing things and initiating bills in the Congress for things like universal health care, worker's rights and corporations staying at home.
Then ----- maybe I'll think about donating.
I want dems in the White House and Congress, but I don't want to do anything just now. Thanks!!!

3. When the Obama folks call, ask them to put you on down for communication by 'email only' . |
|
I did this and it helped with both the wasteful junk mail and the calls. Bear in mind that there are local and national Obama groups, so it may take more than one try to stop the calls.
As for surveys, try and do them b/c it's better to have a good Dem like you answer the questions than some clueless 'undecided' numbskull or, worse yet, a freeper.

6. If it's just a survey, (Democratic or Obama) I answer the questions. They don't ask for donations. |
|
The one that pesters me half to death lately is NARAL. I am Pro-Choice and have donated in the past. I just really don't care for this strong arm treatment or the guilt tactics every time they call me. Which, BTW, is way too often for my taste.
Usually all I have to say is that I am voting for Obama. kaythxbye.
One exception last week was a call instigated by a Newt Gingrich survey. I told them I thought he was a horses ass, take me off their call list, and hung up. That call could have been meant for my freeper mother, but she never votes anyway. So who cares.

5. I've received literally hundreds |
|
of phone calls, mailings, e-mail and a few personal visits by Obama people. I happen to be a substantial donor to Global Warming and environmental causes as well as the Democratic Party so I guess my name (and unfortunately my phone number)is on many lists.

8. I also get visits from the local Obama office. But I don't mind them. |
|
I've been to the local headquarters a few times to pick up yard signs.
I live on a high profile and busy corner, and my Obama signs get stolen constantly. I just keep putting new ones back up!
Sometimes when the volunteers are out and about doing surveys or registering people to vote, they stop by my place to give me a few more yard signs. LOL!
One of these days I should stop by there with a couple cases of beer at closing time. I just lurve these kids! LOL!

How do we do it in a way that helps our candidate, instead of merely annoying voters?

10. Very fair question. And, thank you for pointing that out. |
|
I commend those who are willing to spend volunteer time with calls. It does help, and I have no qualms with that.
My only beef is that when I do give when I can, I get more and more arm twisting, and occasionally the guilt trip and nonsense about giving more on their time rather than my own.
I don't care for that shit.
