The most chatted-about television premiere of the fall may prove to be that of a 33-year-old series, “Saturday Night Live.” With the Olympian gold medalist Michael Phelps as host and Senator Barack Obama making an appearance, Saturday’s season premiere is earning the kind of buzz new shows always strive for.
There may well be a surprise visitor: in talks to play Gov. Sarah Palin on the NBC show is the former cast member and head writer Tina Fey. Many people have commented on Ms. Fey’s resemblance to Governor Palin, the Republican nominee for vice president. Lorne Michaels, the executive producer of “Saturday Night Live,” said on Thursday that discussions with Ms. Fey were continuing; on Friday her participation appeared likely, provided she could finish taping “30 Rock,” the sitcom in which she stars.
Partly because of the presidential election, “SNL” is starting its season early this year. It is also planning three special prime-time election editions.:P
(yeah, I know, Barack Obama has canceled)
