Living and working with Repugs
Again, I want to re-iterate the fact that Repugs, not all mind you, because my own father was a Republican who actually was a real conservative before the Christo-Fascist Red-Necks took over the party, Repugs are for the most part racist and sexist, and that is why most of their talking points cause us to scratch our heads wondering how they could be so ignorant.

The claim that Obama is a Muslim is the secret code phrase that says, "I would never vote for a Black Man".

Get it? Muslim = Black.

I want to tell you that I hear the Muslim thing more than anything else! Not anything about McCain or why they prefer McCain, but the fact that Obama is a Muslim.

Sexist

I get comments about Michelle. "Have you looked at that woman to see how hard she looks?" What has that to do with anything? Okay Sexist and Racist. Judgment based on the looks of a woman is I think sexist. Judgment based on skin color is racist.

Most of the people that I receive these comments from, not all, because a few are really really dumb folks, but most are college educated people who are well off. I had a previous post where I claimed the country has an American Idol mentality, and I still believe this is true, however we are not talking trailer-trash folks in most cases, and the real root cause is not that they are idiots, but that they are RACIST and SEXIST. Hard core Racist folks, not just oh.. they stopped being racist and it's some sort of underlying theme that gets re-surfaced when they see a black man running for President. What I am talking about is that these folks would vote for Hitler or Satan himself over any person of color. And that is the bottom line.

All the rest of the neo-issues they harp about is just a cover.

This is my humble opinion based on the people I personally know.

They could care less about Palin's qualifications or her views. They are only interested in the fact that Palin could assist their team in winning against a black man.

Thanks for letting me rant!

3. i'm in calif....dont see that stuff much out here. TN was never gonna go blue
but all the same, you must find it frustrating as hell. most of that stuff comes from a place of fear. a black president, if nothing else, would help many people overcome their fears...fear of what I dont know.

5. Yep.. that's where I came from
raised in Calif and the West. Moved here.. culture shock. And the biggest shock has been the unbarred racism, that is in no way disguised. How do I know? Because they assume that I have the same views because I am white.
LOL.

Grew up in Ohio. Whenever I go home to Ohio, I nearly fall out of my chair at the overt racism that pops up in the most innocent of conversations. And I never fail to point it out to them. I suppose they think I've become one of those "elitists." Can you imagine? The one who calls out racism is "elitist" to the ones who believe they are racially superior.

Only I have two fairly educated people that say Palin is "very pretty" and seemed like such a nice lady and that they think she will make a great VP.
And that "Obama was going to stick it to the white people for all the bad things that have been done to the blacks so he shouldn't be President."
These are people I thought were good intelligent people, one is a relative, I have loved for a long time. I never knew he had this in him.
Now I am not so sure I am even going to be able to be in the same room with him. I know people say its not worth giving up family for but how can I look them in the eye, and pretend, when I no longer respect them in the slightest?
My sister said I am over reacting and I should just bite my lip and
keep silent, and not start a fight, but this really gets to me.
"I met a girl who sang the blues, I just asked her for some happy news. She just smiled and turned away. Bye Bye Ms. Amercan pie." Don McClean

How do you fight against such entrenched ignorance? I feel so sad.

8. conversation with future brother-in-law
where he finally asked after a heated argument, "Do you think I am Prejudiced?" I said, "Yes". He said "Damned right I am!"

Blood boiling, I told him that since his brother and I were too old to have children of our own, that we were considering adopting, and that if we could we would adopt a child of color to carry on the family name. He hung up the phone.

I doubt he will visit us any time soon.

6. I too live in Tennessee amongst these knuckledraggers.
My neighbors and my local newspaper are all very reich-wing. The staggering number of "low information" voters in my area is truly frightening. I'm thinkin' they have a school around here to teach these idiots to be idiots. At least my husband and I have had our letters to the editor published pretty much as we write them. Most here would NEVER vote for a "colored" person, as they say. We're slipping back into the Dark Ages.
