Has anyone read "The Obama Nation"? I was given this book today
as a present from my sister. The taste of bile remains in my mouth and I know I should be grateful/thankful for her thoughtfulness in remembering but, fuck I wish she had forgotten...

She should have given you a copy of "The Audacity of Hope". That would have been a nice gift. :-)

15. I'd never advocate burning books.
But maybe something useful could be made of it.

Paper is useful in compost, for example.

3. Did she not know the intent of the writing of that book
and honestly thought it would be of interest to a Dem/liberal?

Maybe you can sell it on eBay and donate the proceeds to the Obama campaign.

"interesting arguments". I told her that that was fine but I also wanted her to go to factcheck.org and engage her neurons....

Hubby gave me a book about bush as a gag gift for Xmas on year. He didn't realize that it was actually a book slamming bush. So, I guess the gag was on him.

11. In return give her "The Wrecking Crew" to read
I just finished it -- excellent book on the REAL aims of the conservative agenda in this country, how they have proceeded since Ray-guns came into office, etc. Knowledge is power -- this book clues you in.

And if my sister ever gave me that book? Well, let's just say we're half Italian and you can imagine for yourself the resulting blood feud.

35. Turn it into a running joke.
Next time she has a birthday, give her the latest book by Michael Moore. Tweak her a little, but make it friendly. If you do it right, and she's not a total psycho, you can make your point without burning any bridges.

It would suck to let her stupid politics cause a family rift, but it would also suck to just silently accept her taunts without responding.
