Bill Seeks to Reduce Liquor Stores in Inner Cities

SACRAMENTO, CA - It's not uncommon in inner city neighborhoods to see liquor stores on nearly every corner. And with the wine and spirits sold at these establishments comes a certain crime element.

That was the case at the Valley Hi shopping center where the Liquor Tree once thrived. Sacramento law enforcement say the store was a hub for drug deals, prostitution and gang activity.

The now closed Liquor Tree is vacant. But there's no shortage of other liquor stores in the immediate area.

"I don't know if you noticed, but right across the street there's a liquor store. Another liquor store in the community is not necessary," said George Tate. Tate owns a real estate firm located in the same shopping center where the Liquor Tree used to operate.

2. I Agree
The problem is not the liquor stores, but the lack of jobs and education. There needs to be more of an effort to provide better schools and better jobs.

3. And if politicians would spend more effort
on creating jobs and helping people get an education we would all be better off.
