Obama's Fundraising Machine Still Rolling as Campaign Stays Coy

By Jonathan D. Salant

Sept. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Barack Obama may be playing possum.

John McCain's campaign is boasting about a surge in fundraising following his pick of running mate Sarah Palin, a swell of cash that his campaign says has eroded the money advantage Obama once enjoyed.

The Illinois senator's campaign hasn't done much to refute the notion its financial edge may be shrinking. So far, though, Obama's aides privately say they're keeping a low profile so donors don't get complacent, suggesting that August contributions -- to be disclosed next week -- will top February's one-month record of $55 million. And Palin, while energizing Republicans, has also motivated Democratic donors.

Less than two months before Election Day, money raised from this point comes on top of millions of dollars Obama has already spent to train staff and open offices in competitive states -- building a more extensive operation than McCain and Republicans have been able to put together so far.

3. That would be great..we need to use it to kick their ass in the ads because
we get limited time in the MSM and the "strategists" they send out to speak are wussy's.

2. I'm thinking $80-100 million.
It would be ridiculously awesome if Obama doubled Mccain's $46 mil.

4. I hope he's rolling in money.
I donated today. My first donation to the Obama campaign. Donated to Edwards last winter but haven't been able to afford any donations since. I ordered 2 Obama/Biden bumper stickers and a t shirt and rounded up to include a cash donation.

5. I'm sure Obama has plenty of money
First thing to remember, as always: John McCain is a liar.

One thing that Obama's campaign has that McCain's does not, are voters. Currently the Democrats have 11 million more voters than the Republicans.

In Texas we still have three more weeks to register voters. If the 2 Million+ people who have contributed their dollars nickels and dimes to Obama would commit to registering 5 people (about 1.5 person per week in between now and Oct 6) then the Democrats would have 21 million more voters than the Republicans.

GO FOR IT. REGISTER DEMOCRATS.

7. I think they are getting lots of donations. A few weeks ago, right
after Biden was named, I made a donation and ordered a t-shirt, buttons and yard sign. Today I got this email from the campaign:

Dear xxx --

Thank you for your generous donation.

Due to overwhelming demand, it's taking longer than usual to produce the first edition Obama-Biden merchandise.

However, we will be shipping your merchandise before the end of the month.

Please contact us at 866-351-1865 with any questions.

Sounds good, no?
