Playing with firepower

President Bush is taking a big gamble in launching overt attacks on Pakistani territory Christina Lamb
The Americans picked an inauspicious day to open a new front in the war on terror. It was 4am on the third day of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan and the villagers of Angoor Adda, a small Pakistani mountain town near the Afghan border, were lighting their stoves for breakfast before a long day of fasting.

Two US helicopters supported by a AC130 Spectre gunship landed close to the shrine of a local saint. Out jumped about three dozen heavily armed marines and Navy Seals from a crack unit called Detachment One. As they emerged from the churning dust onto the rock-strewn hills, they made for a terrifying sight in their night-vision goggles.

Within minutes the commandos had surrounded the mudwalled compound of Payo Jan Wazir, a 50-year-old woodcutter and cattle-herd. They believed an Al-Qaeda leader was hiding inside.

According to villagers, the troops burst in, guns blazing, killing Payo Jan, six children, two women and a male relation. Among the dead were a three-year-old girl and a two-year-old boy, they said.

The gunfire brought neighbours running out of their homes. As people headed towards Payo Jan’s house to see what had caused the commotion, the commandos opened fire, killing 10 more villagers.

The Americans fanned out, conducting house-to-house searches, before jumping back into the gunships and off into the sky. Stunned villagers were left to carry away the bodies left in the street.

1. And just like that we probably created a hundred potential alQaeda recruits.
They don't hate us for our fucking freedoms, they hate us because we kill their friends and families.

12. Do you really think they DON'T "get it"?
The goal of this war (and pretty much any war/police action (including the so called "War on Drugs") instigated by the US in the past 1/2 century and more) is not the defeat of some enemy, real or imagined. The goal is the forment and continuation of conflict, for the sole purpose of siphoning public funds into private hands in such a way that realisic oversight and accountability is prevented.

11. Exactly. This shit hands terrorists new recruits by the dozens.
If the military wants to make a raid, that's fine and dandy. But for God's sake -- THEY HAVE TO MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE THEY'VE GOT THE RIGHT FUCKING LOCATION, AND THEY NEED TO NOT GUN DOWN CIVILIANS IN THE PROCESS!

Especially that second wave! Jesus Christ, how the fuck did they think that was justifiable?! Some of those people just went to go see what the hell was going on, and got shot.

4. It happened to a mayor of a town close to DC just a few weeks ago..
They shot his two dogs, he was lucky they didn't shoot him and/or his family.

Similar type raids happen dozens of times every day in the land of the free.

Maybe not quite to the same degree, but the intent and execution is very similar.

Do you fail to understand?

Cops routinely get off after episodes of ridiculously extreme violence.

War on terror.

War on drugs.

The key word here is "war".

7. Are these the high tech operations Bob Woodward was referring to
...that has made the surge so effective? Sounds like the 1920s prohibition gangland thug battles of turf domination to me. It's still murder as far as many Americans are concerned. Do you think we should praise these perpetrators who ordered and carried out these operations as heroes? I sure don't. These actions will surely come back to haunt us.

10. That's the problem with "actionable intelligence"....
...often it's wrong, from dubious sources and ends up in a bloodbath. The operators who carry out the mission are relying on the intelligence community to give them the best information available and back in the good old days that quality of intelligence took weeks, months and sometimes years to obtain and process. It was only after the data had been vetted to a high degree of probability that the trigger would be pulled.

Nowadays, you've got complete fucking amateurs like Shitstain Shoots-Guy-In-Face (yeah, I'm talking to you, you five deferment fat bag of motherfucking c*******ing c***) making decisions on their fat, fucking gut, which as we know are nearly always wrong.
