Both families safe, property not so much
My wife and I were finally able to contact our families in the area where Ike hit, mostly via text messages because nothing else worked. We live in Washington state now and had no contact all night. The livable status of their homes isn't well known but we do know one lost a roof and another was flooded. No one has power or is expected to for at least two weeks. We can't fly in yet but will as soon as we can. Just a few months ago we replaced her parents floor that had joist damage from Rita. We think the floor is gone due to flooding again. No one can get down their road yet to see but from a distance it looks to be underwater.

My wife and I needed a break from the phone and TV so we hopped over to the Moscow, Id fair and saw something surprising. Remember, this is Idaho. Everywhere we looked we saw Obama balloons and stickers. Only saw one McCain sticker. As I walked past the McCain booth I got a stare down you wouldn't believe. I heard the guy in the booth tell a family, "we give you pins with your picture on them, the other guys give you just a balloon." I have absolutely no manners and I turned to the guy and said, "Well, not only a balloon but hope as well." Republicans has no sense of humor and can get very mean.

So how about some fair photos?

Freepers and trolls, that's Idaho. You should be very worried. Oh, almost forgot, please don't try and twist my pig photo into some sexist Palin thing. It's just pigs, not a one had lipstick.

Happy your family is OK. It's good that you're going down when you can. They'll probably need your support. What a horrible thing to have to go through - again. But at least THEY are safe. Houses, roofs, and floors can be replaced. Families can't.

3. I'm so glad to hear both families are safe!
It looks like Beaumont got hit pretty hard.

Nice pics! Being on the other side of the state, it's always good to hear what's going on next to us!

I hope things work out ok for both your families...I'll keep them in my thoughts.

Take care.

5. I was in Lewiston, Idaho last summer
and expected to be surrounded by Bush supporters, but those people weren't all that happy with Bush.

I had the surreal experience of going into a grocery store on the edge of town next to a saddle shop. The manager and two guys dressed in cowboy grab were discussing global warming. Lewiston was in the middle of a drought last summer and grass fires had burned up to the edge of town.

It hard to believe that Idaho would go blue, but I think the Lewiston area will.

Glad to hear your family is O.K., but it must be hard for people down there to have repair damage again and again.

Great pictures!!!

6. I saw a similar thing at a dog festival today.
My dog and I went to the Festival of the Bastardino and saw a Dogs for Obama booth. They were selling buttons with photo of dogs on them for a buck that said "Dogs for Obama," or, for $10, they'd take a photo of your dog by an Obama sign and make you a custom button. Very cool fundraising idea!

Best part: I also saw someone wearing an Obama t, and another woman carrying an Obama tote bag. I had on my Obama t. And I saw not one single sign of McCain support. :)
