How to make a Depression Cake
1 New Depression Cake
(destroys 1 global economy)
(note: please follow recipe exactly. It took decades to perfect)

Ingredients
--------------

1 butterfly ballot design
4 different types of chads
5 Supreme Court Justices
4 airplanes

Mix these ingredients and set aside. They will be necessary for the parts to come

----

1 Transnational Energy Company
2 sets of rolling blackouts
1 fudge induced Accounting Corporation

combine using the media spin setting on a mixer. Use to prop up the price of oil

----

0 WMDS
1 CIA covert agent
1 Former best friend turned EvilDoer
22 nation member of the "Coalition of the Willing"

Mix by hand, and sprinkle in "Mission Accomplished" banners to reach desired taste

----

10 million dollars worth of Swift-Boating
1 AWOL President
0 WMDs
16 days without a response

Put over low heat and let come to a boil, before reducing heat and simmering.

----

CORRECTION: put back under HIGH heat, and surge the mixture back up again.
Reduce heat 2 degrees, which is still an escalation from original temperature

----

2 Regained houses of Congress
1 standard Impeachment
Investment Bank Bailouts (to taste)

remove impeachment, as it won't be used.

----

Baking Instructions
1. Combine all ingredient mixes.
2. Set Economy to -$400 billion/yr profit
3. De-regulate the mixes, let them sort themselves out
4. Bake for 8 years
5. Take out of oven

Cake will be level at beginning, then fall, then regain, then fall again, then regain to below original level, then crash.

Warning: Cake may taste bitter and leave a sense of longing for the past in one's mouth

3. Garnish with a dollop of Katrina frosting
Warning: Katrina frosting tends to be watery and may overwhelm the cake. DO NOt, Repeat DO NOT, act in a timely manner. The frosting must be allowed to partially ruin the cake, as it helps build character, and destroys the bad parts of the cake (the burnt areas).

4. My 90+ grandmother says we're in a depression
and we just can't see it, yet. The Bush government IS going to tremendous lengths to prob up failing banks and financial institutions that are tanking at incredible rates. I think we're close, but not there, and that his administration is doing way more than we'll ever know to stave off the crash until after his term has ended.

11. My mom is 83 and says the same thing
She said it more than a year ago, in fact. And I trust these seniors' opinions--after all, they lived through the first Depression--they oughta know what one looks like, no?
