So... I'm Lookin At This...

Which looks like Ike got folded into a west to east storm-front...

And this too...

And I'm a bone-head novice, but I gotta ask...

Is it possible that semi-finished hurricanes could become nitro-glycerin for other weather events???

IOW - Will the "Perfect Storm" become a more common event???

1. I don't know, but we have 35 mph sustained winds here, and ...
....I don't want to imagine riding out even a category 1 hurricane.

4. Just A Question For Future Weather Weirdness...
Not trying to be flippant, or cavalier...

But if this is gonna be our future, we need to do a lot of work.

Not like that's a big mystery to the semi-sentient.

Peace...

5. The second loop is Doppler radar of the approaching Hurricane
which was fully formed, and luckily, didn't intensify all that much before landfall.

What you see is the hurricane coming into range of the radar return bounce, nothing more. It already had a well formed "eye".

As for the first loop, showing Ike and it's still tropical signature circulation pattern, and yeah, it's merging into a frontal system (after all, hurricanes are really just areas of intense low pressure, just like the low pressure areas that form cold fronts).

According to the forecasts, before the jet streams shearing action rips Ike apart, it will reach all the way to the Great Lakes as a tropical depression.
