Remember how the GOP called out 2 Navy Seals at their convention?
It turns out they weren't supposed to do that ...

From the Los Angeles Times
Republican panel admits it erred in naming Navy SEALs
Two members of the elite squad attended the convention to honor fallen SEAL Michael A. Monsoor of Garden Grove. They were named, in violation of Navy policy.
By Julian E. Barnes
Los Angeles Times Staff Writer

September 6, 2008

WASHINGTON — A teleprompter error at the Republican National Convention, not the ad-libbing of a former prisoner of war, led to the identification of two Navy SEALs in violation of military rules, a GOP official said Friday.

At the convention on Tuesday, delegates watched a moving video tribute to Medal of Honor winner and fallen SEAL Michael A. Monsoor of Garden Grove. Afterward, Orson Swindle, a retired Marine officer who shared a North Vietnamese prison cell with Republican presidential nominee John McCain, asked two members of Monsoor's SEAL Team 3 to stand, naming them.

The appearance by the active duty military members troubled some at the Pentagon because of rules against active duty personnel participating in political activities.

On Wednesday, Navy officials said they had given permission for the SEALs to attend the convention on the condition that the Republican National Committee neither showcase them in the media nor publicly recognize them.

4. SEALS are also known as "The Quiet Professionals"....
...and as such maintain a level of anonymity that is integral with their level of OPSEC and OPTEMPO. Naming them at the convention and, by proxy, their unit has compromised any future operations that may be on the table.

Republicants are not and never will be friends of the military, they are traitors to our entire security apparatus. They are rank amateurs at national security and the sooner we kill the meme that they hold the strong hand on the defense of the nation the better.

14. I wonder what the SEALs themselves thought?
Did they just go because they wanted to show their support for their favored candidate while in uniform? Or were they invited? Order to show up?

This whole mess stinks.

12. Oh, you know, that funny funny McCain
He is the son of a son of Navy Admirals. He really KNOWS and RESPECTS the Navy.
Did you know he was an honorable POW for 5 1/2 years? We should bow to him.

What? Oh.....................

Oh that stupid stupid asshole McCain.

rather than enhance national security.

16. GOP never had a problem with revealing CIA agents either - see Plame.
They are all traitors in my book. Anybody that still has an 'R' on their voter registration is against all things America stands for.

20. Now, now, I'm sure the Plame Outing was an honest mistake also.
Take a deep breath. Don't be so angry -- just because the Giggling Killers have broken into the cockpit, slit the pilots' throats, and hijacked the plane. Anger is off-the-table.

Let's calm down and trust the process.

17. i call bu**sh**! "the error actually occurred when an old speech was placed in the teleprompter"
well no kidding! i doubt swindle even knew the names and ranks off the top of his head anyway.

the real question is WHY was the "old speech" placed in the teleprompter and WHO placed it there.

they want to make us think it was an accident by a low-level flunky, but i have my doubts.
at best, it shows that they didn't take their deal with the navy seriously enough to make sure people in a position to violate the deal knew the terms of the deal.
