Voter Insanity...So this blew my mind the other day.... |
|
i was talking to a co-worker of mine the other day. He's a naturalized citizen, African, or rather African-American now, had just gotten naturalized in 2004, worked on the Kerry Campaign, canvassing, educatiing, getting out the vote, etc.
Apparently before the elections he was in France (he's from one of the former French African colonies) and he saw Kerry there, "kissing up to the French, speaking french" etc - said that despite going to France for family he hates the French with unbridled passion.
When he saw Kerry being so goshdarn French with the French, he got so angry, that he voted for Bush. He said he then walked out of the booth and thought to himself - "What did I just do?"
This blew my mind. I asked him why he hated America, and played it off but I was flabbergasted on the inside. Is voting really this visceral?
Do people really not understand how important a vote is? or am i taking it all too seriously? is it possible he was just trying to make a good story? My head might explode because I just cannot compute something so completely irrational.

1. He's from Senegal or Algeria possibly. |

The French, Belgians and Portuguese were very harsh colonizers and that is not as well known by Americans as the atrocities of the Spanish and British and US.

4. Uh yeah... I hate the Chinese Communist Party so seeing the GOP cozy up with them |
|
only reinforces my tendencies to vote Democratic.
I think that the guy does have some issues probably relating to his specific diaspora as an African-American, just like all the rest of us hyphenated Americans.

3. Yes, for many people, voting is visceral. Republicans learned with Reagan & still use this technique |
