Will the gas price gouging help or hurt Mc Same?
Edited on Sun Sep-14-08 07:21 AM by Stuart G
With price gouging all over the country for the next few days, will this help us? My guess is that it will instantly focus attention, whether people like it or not, right back on gas/oil issue. Off of other stuff like beauty queens and folksy talk.
I recall in 2006, the Foley scandal did the same thing. If it works, I don't mind paying 6 dollars a gallon for while...Bring it on ... if it will help get Obama elected..

1. Drill Baby Drill
...will come roaring back. Unfortunately, this ridiculous issue is a winner for the right wing base. I'm not sure how it plays with swing voters but the RW'ers I know think that the Democrats have kept the oil companies in chains for decades.

So I'm not sure that gas price spikes help as much as they ought to.

2. Three points: there's been a Dem congress (barely) for 1 1/2 yrs, so
gas prices are all the Dems' fault. :sarcasm: Then, the dastardly Dems in past years have stopped the patriotic oil companies, who are desperately trying to drill for oil to save the country,(:sarcasm:), from digging up the stuff.

And thirdly, only 1% of the dumbass population understands that any oil we drill here goes straight on the international open market so the oil companies can get the best price possible. I've decided that it's impossible to edumakate the American masses. I wait in despair for this abortion of an election to be over so I can then decide what I personally am gonna do about the numb horror that will no doubt overtake me when we are saddled with EVEN WORSE Republicans than before.

3. The gouging will fade quickly
And likely have no effect on the election.

Amazingly, high gas prices are actually helping the Repuglicans. During the highest prices, polls were showing about 70% of Americans willing to drill literally anywhere. Matters not if it wouldn't help.

Something is really wrong here......

In an energy speech recently, McCain said that: "As for offshore drilling, it's safe enough these days that not even Hurricanes Katrina and Rita could cause significant spillage from the battered rigs off the coasts of New Orleans and Houston."

The hurricanes totally destroyed 113 oil rigs, according to the government's Minerals Management Service, and damaged 457 pipelines. The resulting oil spills were large enough to be seen from space, according to several reports. - Washington Post
