NATIONAL CHECK IF I CAN VOTE DAY
I've been posting at different times all week to make sure that I reach as big of a readership as possible.

I am proposing at all liberal/progressive blogs, web sites and organizations and State and County Democratic Party chairs, declare October 1, 2008 NATIONAL CHECK IF I CAN VOTE DAY by doing so they commit to text, email or phone their supporters/subscribers and nudge them to check on their ability to vote in the November election. Just Tuesday there was a news article on Yahoo about 300,000 folks in New Jersey who thought that they were registered to vote, but either had their names purged from the rolls or their registrations never entered. On Wednesday in Michigan a Republican County Auditor declared that any home owner who enters into foreclosure will be removed from the voting rolls. We all remember what happened in Florida in 2000 and in New Mexico and Ohio in 2004. Let it not happen again! To make this a fun day, and to compliment the effort, I would love to see a call for potluck house parties that evening with a screening of a film about the electoral cheating that took in the past two elections.

By doing this I feel we accomplish three goals: 1) the practical aspect of making sure Obama's supporters are actually registered and able to vote. By doing it on this day, there would be enough time to correct problems BEFORE it is too late. Most states have a 30 or 14 day pre-registration requirement in order to be able to vote. 2) if we have enough groups do this, it would achieve critical mass and be noticed by the main stream media. If our groups leaders were to be interviewed, then they could mention the problems of the past two elections. 3) it would put Republican Secretary's of State, County Auditors and poll workers on notice that the progressive movement will be much more pro-active and vigilant in protecting their constituents voting rights and the integrity of the electoral process this time around.

I know this is a small thing to do, but it could potentially save us a number of votes in a close election. It would also put "it out there" for both election officials and the media that we are watching much more closely this time. If you feel this has merit, please, PLEASE! run with it, tweak it to your perfection and WRITE or CALL any of the liberal media, web sites etc and get a ground swell for this. In order for it to work, it needs to be a one day MASSIVE project, that in reality takes only one email from a group and a couple of minutes for an individual to accomplish.

On a personal note, I would like to find the phone or email for Keith Olberman and Rachel Maddow and Stephanie Miller and Randi Rhodes and run this by them. Thanks for your attention to this long post.

1. Thank You. This is something..
we are responsible for..spreading the word. We can not leave it to others, or expect someone else to do it for us, and we have to assume we are all vulnerable.
