ALERT: Report: Pentagon decides to supply Israel with new bunker buster bombs
According to this thread (tip to bemildred) from this morning, the Pentagon has decided to send bunker buster bombs to Israel.

This information absolutely MUST be seen.

Just WHO is going to stop these Armageddonists????? And what is the truth?

What is the truth?? Have **the cooler heads** of Rice and Gates finally lost this battle? Are Bush/Cheney trying to rescue the imploding McCain-Palin ticket? That is VERY plausible.

9/11: US refuses to give Israel bombs, fearing Iran strike; 9/14: US decides to supply Israel with bunker buster bombs

US 'refuses to give Israel bombs' fearing Iran strike

September 11, 2008
AFP

JERUSALEM (AFP) — The United States has turned down an Israeli request for "bunker buster" bombs and mid-air refuelling planes for fear they could be used to attack Iran, the Haaretz newspaper said.

The US administration also refused to give permission for Israeli fighter jets to fly over Iraq -- the quickest route to Iran, it said.

.....

Military experts believe the GBU-28 "bunker busters" Israel had requested could be effective against Iran's underground uranium enrichment facility at Natanz in central Iran.

The GBU-28 is a 2.2-tonne, laser-guided, conventional munition equipped with a powerful warhead that can burrow through more than six metres (20 feet) of concrete and up to 30.5 metres (100 feet) of hard ground.

Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak said after a meeting with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice last month that the United States "do not want, for the time being, any (military) action against Iran" but that Israel kept all options open.

While denying the requests for "bunker-buster" bombs and refuelling planes, the US administration has agreed to help reinforce Israel's defences.

An advanced US radar system is to be stationed in Israel which would double the 2,000-kilometre (1,250-mile) detection range of missiles launched from Iran. The system would be connected to an US early warning system, a senior defence official told AFP.

And from today:

U.S. to sell Israel Air Force new bunker-buster bombs

September 14, 2008
Haaretz

Despite reservations in Washington regarding a possible Israeli strike on Iran, the American administration will supply Israel with sophisticated weapons for heavily fortified targets, the U.S. administration announced.
The U.S. Department of Defense announced it would sell the Israel Air Force 1,000 new smart bombs, rumored to significantly enhance the IAF's military capabilities. The deal was approved amid public and secret messages from Washington, with the Americans expressing their reservations about a possible Israeli strike against the Islamic Republic's suspected nuclear sites.

The Pentagon's announcement, which came on Friday, said the U.S. will provide Israel with 1,000 units of Guided Bomb Unit-39 (GBU-39) - a special weapon developed for penetrating fortified facilities located deep underground.
The $77 million shipment, which includes launchers and appurtenances, will allow the IAF to hit many more bunkers than currently possible. Although each bomb weighs 113 kilograms, its penetration capabilities equal those of a one ton bomb, according to professional literature.

Most U.S. Air Force aircraft are able to carry a pack of four of these bombs in place of a single one-ton bomb. The bomb's small size allows a single-strike aircraft to carry more of the munitions than is possible utilizing currently available bomb units, thus increasing firepower, or, alternatively, allowing the aircraft to fly longer distances to deliver a single bomb.

.....

The U.S. has already supplied Israel with earlier versions of bunker busters. In 2005, the Pentagon authorized the sale of GBU-28 to Israel, in a move that commentators construed as a hinted threat aimed at Iran. Haaretz reported earlier this month that the U.S. was hesitant about selling Israel heavier busters.

The Pentagon's announcement also said that the U.S. would help upgrade the Israel Defense Forces' patriot anti-aircraft missiles - which Israel uses as part of its missile-interception array. Israel will also receive 28,000 LAW (Light Anti-Tank Weapon) tube launchers for land forces.

3. Yep-this is one of those very important, critical threads that need to be kicked
and when it comes to "bunker busters" and other special weapons in our nation's arsenal a main influence is a guy named Linton F. Brooks who was fired for "security lapses" in the nuclear arsenal.

9. With a heavy heart, bobthedrummer, sometimes it gets pretty bleak.
I think this news is a very bad omen.

And with the article in today's WP, Conflict Over Spying Led White House to Brink, we now know that the Cheney/Addington/Yoo classified illegal domestic spying program was not intended to catch terrorists, because Frances Townsend, Bush's deputy national security advisor for combating terrorism was not familiar with the code name of the program. It is sequestered in the office of Cheney's legal counsel, David Addington.

Cheney and Addington and their poodle Bush are determined to destroy us, one way or another.

David Addington, the vice president's lawyer, kept in his office controlling documents that gave strategic direction to the nation's largest spy agency. (By Melina Mara -- The Washington Post)

"We're going to push and push and push until some larger force makes us stop." ----David Addington, in The Terror Presidency: Law and Judgment Inside the Bush Administration, by Jack Goldsmith

Thanks for all you do, bobthedrummer, and for those links.

With White House Push, U.S. Arms Sales Rise Sharply

re: foreign aid-- Israel and Egypt still get 80% of that

As for Congress.......

"Congress is notified before major arms sales deals are completed between foreign governments and the Pentagon. While lawmakers have the power to object formally and block any individual sale, they rarely use it."

6. What better way for Bu$hCo to stay in the $$$, by fomenting wars and selling arms to perpetuate them
It's how this evil cabal exists. Cutting off their wars would cut off the need for massive up-arming of threatened nations.

We are at critical mass from every direction. In Bush/Cheney World, only another invasion will save their behinds in November. Don't think they won't use it. Our government is a cabal of war criminals.

I only hope we live long enough to see them answer to Justice.

and this is terrifying news. Iran is going to feel increased pressure to get help to defend themselves and who can they turn to? Russia? China?

Damn - and why won't congress say something or object? We have to flood their phone lines now.

8. Here it comes...
We are now fighting wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and will soon be allied with Israel against Iran which will turn to Russia and Venezuela. This is not good. These neo-con war mongers will stop at nothing right now. We are going to be at war with half of the world. The very scary part is that Russia and Venezuela are in much closer striking range to the US from the sites of their war games they were involved in last week. Now the guessing game begins as to when this will all go down,

23. The GBU-39 has up to a 60 mile standoff. (100km)
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/munitions/sdb.htm

--snip--

At just 5.9 feet long and 285 pounds, the bomb’s small size increases the number of weapons an aircraft can carry, therefore raising the amount of targets it can kill in one sortie. Because of its size and precision accuracy, it also reduces collateral, or unintended, damage in the target vicinity. In the urban conflict in Iraq, the warfighter struggles at times to find a weapon that gives them a desired effect on a target without an excessive effect, so the small diameter bomb will be a nice addition. Complementing the weapon is a smart miniature munitions carriage system. This system can carry four small diameter bombs, enabling an aircraft to quadruple its load out. The carriage system functions similar to an aircraft stores management system by communicating with and controlling up to four weapons.

A small diameter bomb can be used in adverse weather and has a standoff range of more than 60 nautical miles. Once released, the weapon uses its inertial navigation and an anti-jam Global Positioning System to fly to the target. Its guidance is further augmented by a differential GPS system, which provides corrections to enhance accuracy. As the Air Force chief of staff's number one weapon priority, the small diameter bomb is the fastest major acquisition program in Eglin history.

The size and accuracy of small diameter bombs allows aircraft to carry more munitions to more targets and strike them more effectively with less collateral damage. Because of its capabilities, the Small Diameter Bomb system is an important element of the Air Force's Global Strike Task Force. Under the official title of "Component Advanced Development for the Small Diameter Bomb," the program is being conducted by the Air Armament Center and the Air Force Research Laboratory Flight Vehicles Integration Branch located at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.
