2. Be careful what you ask for.... Idiot.
If Texas gets treated as "well" as LA after Katrina, they're gonna be in a whole world of hurt. I suppose he's trying to perpetuate the myth that BushCo actually did something.

4. He's. Got. To. Be. F*CKING. KIDDING.
On two levels:

First, that he has no shame in using Texas's woes right now to try to rewrite "heckuva job, Brownie" history for Bush
Second -- oh, forget it. The first one is all that needs to be said.

7. "No confirmed reports of death"
Edited on Sun Sep-14-08 01:12 PM by rainbow4321
When pressed, the speaking official admitted to "three deaths"

They keep talking about having "next of kin" issues..so the news guy asked "if you say there are no deaths or only 3 deaths, WHY do you keep saying there are next of kin issues?". Officials keep trying to sidestep the question

Edited on Sun Sep-14-08 01:13 PM by Whoa_Nelly
:wtf:

Does Perry want ATM cards for TX citizens displaced by Ike?
(We all know what a fiasco and media FUBAR that was)

Hey, Perry GoodHair!
Do you need some toxic trailers?
Heard there were some somewhere in Arkansas that you can get for cheap.

Has the TX National Guard been called in?
Got Red Cross support anywhere?

OK, Perry! Just make your list. Let's see what we can do about it.

Got levees destroyed?
People floating in the streets?
People flown or bused to the unknown, that will result in separating families for weeks?
Do you need to bulldoze some neighborhoods?
Do you have some neighborhoods that need to be bought out so expensive and clientele exclusive condos can be built?

let us know... :eyes:

14. Maybe Babs can offer her unique expression of sympathy
and remind everyone that since many of the victims were underprivileged anyway, this is working very well for them.

Perhaps we can all chip in and buy Junior another guitar, or bake a belated birthday cake for McCain.
Oh, and let's get those formaldehyde-laden trailers down there pronto.

That would certainly be treating them as well as the Katrina victims.

Said they lost contact with people from that end of the island.

Anyone know the demographics of the west end of Galveston?? Sounds like officials haven't bothered to go and look for people yet. Isn't that the side that got hit the worst?

But also lots of subdivisions with a mix of people from various income levels.

Rented a place at the Seascape Condos for a week...right on the beach, not behind the seawall. Soooo beautiful. I'd get up at sunrise and go walk the beach just for the view. Now I can't help but wonder if it is even still standing.

28. ya mean like being run out of town
as were many katrina victims when they came looking for refuge?

or how about spending umpteen days in an arena waiting for help? "I have not heard a report of thousands of people in the convention center who don't have food and water." –Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, on NPR's "All Things Considered," Sept. 1, 2005

how about being subjected to republican ridicule because you didn't evacuate? "I mean, you have people who don't heed those warnings and then put people at risk as a result of not heeding those warnings. There may be a need to look at tougher penalties on those who decide to ride it out and understand that there are consequences to not leaving." –Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA), Sept. 6, 2005

or republican "mock-rage" that people shouldn't build their homes there? "We finally cleaned up public housing in New Orleans. We couldn't do it, but God did." –Rep. Richard Baker (R-LA) to lobbyists, as quoted in the Wall Street Journal

or waiting for FEMA to show up while "heckava job brownie" made sure he was a fashion plate for tv? "If you'll look at my lovely FEMA attire you'll really vomit. I am a fashion god ... Anything specific I need to do or tweak? Do you know of anyone who dog-sits? ... Can I quit now? Can I come home? ... I'm trapped now, please rescue me." --FEMA Director Michael Brown, in various emails to colleagues and friends in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina

how about throwing a birthday party for mccain and listen to bush strum a guitar? "I believe the town where I used to come – from Houston, Texas, to enjoy myself, occasionally too much – will be that very same town, that it will be a better place to come to." –President Bush, on the tarmac at the New Orleans airport, Sept. 2, 2005

"What I'm hearing which is sort of scary is that they all want to stay in Texas. Everybody is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway so this (chuckle) – this is working very well for them." –Former First Lady Barbara Bush, on the hurricane evacuees at the Astrodome in Houston, Sept. 5, 2005

"It's totally wiped out. ... It's devastating, it's got to be doubly devastating on the ground." –President Bush, turning to his aides while surveying Hurricane Katrina flood damage from Air Force One, Aug. 31, 2005

"It makes no sense to spend billions of dollars to rebuild a city that's seven feet under sea level....It looks like a lot of that place could be bulldozed." –House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.), Aug. 31, 2005

32. Katrina survivor here
Fuck Rick Perry.

Evacuations started so late after Katrina...I'm just not going to go into it again.

The PEOPLE of San Antonio opened their hearts and their homes to us. They were generous, well meaning, and kind. Many volunteers broke down in tears at the sight of what lay before them. These are our fellow citizens and they deserve our respect and support.

Fuck what Perry had to say, you just care for the people that survive and need a helping hand.

And knock off this talk criticizing Texans. It's neither the time nor the place. I mean that with all my heart. Take care of the wounded FIRST. There's always time to cast blame and sarcasm about later.

35. Well if they are :
Three years from now:

The oil rigs will have floated out to sea.
The seawall will have been repaired and it will withstand high tide (maybe).
Abandoned houses will still be standing.
People who have mortgages they can't pay will be hounded from here to eternity.
Nothing on Galveston Island will be rebuilt. Property will be tangled up in red tape until an upscale developer will buy it.
They saved the formaldehyde trailers from Katrina. Get gas masks.

There's much more.

38. The next of kin part puzzle me. If they know there are x deaths, did they all have ID and
did they assume the three or x or xx were not with relatives?

What does contacting next of kin have to do with giving us numbers. No press is going to ask for names.

Makes you wonder if there was a shooting involved some place and they have the victims, but you still don't need names to give numbers?

What's going on?
