Officials: Parts of Galveston Causeway buckled

GALVESTON — Officials who asked not to be named said parts of the new island causeway have buckled.

They are having to cover it up. They'll never be able to.

2. Well, that sucks.

If it happened. Let's wait for the inspection. Then if they re-open it and it's ok, great; if they re-open it and it collapses, killing dozens, we have a problem. If they don't re-open, the "cover-up" has failed.

I draw a distinction between quoting unnamed officials and taking it as fact, and waiting for somebody to look at it and give a report with his/her name attached to it. The rumor has a reasonable chance of being wrong; the report, less of one.

Then again, I figure it'll be a month or two before I head down that way again, so I have no pressing need to hear how horrible it is that * didn't personally use his authority to stop boats from crashing into bridge-support pylons during a Cat 2 hurricane.
