Video on CNBC is of Lehman Bros. employees emptying their offices
Edited on Sun Sep-14-08 07:52 PM by Bleachers7
I tuned into CNBC because I heard they are doing a special on Lehman Brothers going under. They are showing people entering the Lehman Brothers building with boxes and leaving with their stuff. That is really sad. I work right near there. I walk by that building almost every day.

Ironically, the Lehman Brothers building was supposed to be the Merril Lynch building. Merril was bought tonight by Bank of America. When 9/11 happened, Lehman Bros. needed the space and they moved in there. Now almost exactly 7 years later, it's over for Lehman. Also, Lehman employs thousands of people mostly in the 7th Ave. 50's neighborhood. This is going to hurt the local businesses. It's really a disaster all around.

2. Did I hear something today about Merril Lynch, too?
(something alarming)

That is so sad -- and those folks aren't counted in the over 80,000 who lost their jobs last MONTH.

3. Yes, watching those people is making this financial story very human....
And those are the folks who've had jobs. The ripple effects of the huge mess in markets is scaring the bejesus outta me.

4. Very heartbreaking, and this drips down to the local merchants
grocers (shopping before heading home) and those wonderful luncheonettes. I'm very sad for them.

5. Of course if this wasn't happening in a very visiible way...
the average voter would be completely oblivious of the magnitude of the Republican-lead financial disaster coming our way. Since the crash is inevitable now, it's better it happens on Bush's watch than getting postponed to happen on Obama's watch.

7. Where Did the Money Go?
Edited on Sun Sep-14-08 08:08 PM by The Shadow
I agree that it will hurt others, but where the fuck did the money go? I know that the executive officers at Lehman and other firms didn't stop taking their bloated salaries and continue poorly managing this firm and others. I'm sorry, but you have to call it for what it is. Piss poor management and corporate greed led to these collapses in my opinion. Sad!
