Hurricane IKE just hit Ohio
I know it sounds odd but for the past 4 hours we have been having winds at about 40 MPH gusting to 65 MPH. Power is out neighbors have large branches down everywhere, shingles blown off, etc.

It is AMAZING the power of a hurricane. It hits 900 miles away and a few days later can still pack a punch with 65 MPH wind gusts so far inland.

1. My relatives are without power now.
I just got off the phone with my mom about 20 minutes ago. She's up in NE Ohio, close to Erie, PA, right off of Lake Erie. The power went out while we were speaking.

14. Canton is due south of Cleveland by about 60 miles
We didn't get any rain like you did...just the winds.

25. Hi LiberalHeart!
I'm in Toledo! It was pretty windy Sunday night. I took the dog for a walk and there were some small tree limbs down.

26. Hey, that's where Hubby grew up!
Well, Massillon area (Jackson High School). His parents still go to Canton First Church of the Nazarene, even though they've moved.

4. Isn't that a tropical storm instead of a hurricane by now?
I'm sorry, I'm not as well versed in meteorology so there's every possibility that I'm wrong.

12. It is no longer a hurricane or tropical storm at this point
It is just a fast moving system with VEY low pressure for this area. I saw the barometer around 29.25 which is very low.

5. The gusts down here in Cincinnati were up to over 70mph.
More than half a million people are without power. I'm surprised I still have power considering my power is usually the first to go out. Downed power lines and whole trees were uprooted around the city.

7. Ike Came Through KY This Afternoon...
In Lexington, we had sustained gusts of 54 mph and Louisville had hurricane gusts of 75 mph...really bizarre to think that this far inland a storm can do that kind of damage. We had a wall collapse, a huge tree fall on a car and injure a woman, several trees down, fires from downed power lines and a major hospital without power for a while. Scary...

9. Had it here in Indy a few hours ago...
My two-seater swing got flipped over the railing and off the deck. Get anything that can blow away inside if you can.

16. That was fast!! Wowza!
We are getting a lot of humidity (93%) from Ike here in MA but that's about it.

Hanna was quite enough, so I'm glad Ike isn't coming over the state!

Glad you're out of the woods! Now you can relax. ;)

Went to a Red Sox game Monday night. I was worried it would be wet but the weather was great. Love Boston.

21. I guess you missed all the road collapses then... that's good!
:P

There was a lot of flooding here and in NH. Some power outages, etc.

A whole street collapsed due to 6 inches of rain in 2 hours!

Glad you had a great time! Did they win?! :P I can't remember!

20. Power's out on Grand Island just outside of Niagara Falls, according to my son.
High winds and a lot of rain. We're feeling the leading edge now north of Syracuse at the other end of Lake Ontario. It made for an interesting landing on the flight from Newark, boy howdy!

23. Well, I trust the pilots and staff. There were a lot of delays on flights
in and out of Newark with a lot of planes held on the ground at various airports. It did my heart good to hear the woman who groused repeatedly because of the delay let out a yelp during the landing. It was a bit of a white knuckle event for me. I wish more people knew how many things have to go exactly right for a plane to make a safe trip. If the airline delays a flight for weather or mechanical problems, that's fine with me. It really is a case of better late than never!
