Suggestion :Watch the stock market tomorrow.
Edited on Sun Sep-14-08 11:12 PM by tannybogus
It will be a rough ride, and it's good there are breakers in place. The last thing needed is a market in freefall. A downward adjustment is expected, but if a panic is set off it won't help anyone. When people panic there is no telling what they will do. Don't assume it would help Obama. Everyone has been focused on Ike which is to be expected. This may be an unwelcome surprise.

2. -350 as it sits on the futures.
I, however, expect major PPT tomorrow.

They'll spread it out.

3. The Dow Jones futures are down 360 points.
I have no idea where it will ultimately go.
Here's a thread that shows where the breakers are:

Hopefully, they won't be needed.

13. Brokers collect on sales no matter whether they're gains or losses.
High volumes = high revenues for brokers.

6. We have protections.
However, what about the world markets. They could get a major ball rolling that will cause trouble for days.
I don't know what is going to happen. You're possibly right. Maybe nothing everywhere. I hope so.

26. This kind of crazy is why I got rid of my 401(k) years ago.
I stopped contributing to it and (gasp) cashed it out, penalties and all. I saw way too many people counting their chickens and dreaming about what they'd do in their retirement years only to find themselves with no chickens at all when their plan's value crashed.

My great-grandmother kept all her money in old purses in a chifforobe in her bedroom. If their house had ever burned down, her money would've been toast, but she did NOT trust banks. I'm starting to feel the same way, but I'd have to go with a more high tech and secure equivalent of hiding my money in a mattress. :-)

15. They reinstitued the uncovered short sales on the financials
they removed most of the circuit breakers, and you can still short stock on the down tick

This was all done during the bush administration

If you remember the republican debate, every republican candidate EXCEPT ron paul said the economy was OK

Incidently, this is more than just a downward adjustment. For more than two years they knew about this

This will NOT hurt Obama, but it will point to an administration who has worked to deregulate, and that will NOT go unnoticed. You cannot hide which administration has been in control for the last eight years

I am just not going to assume anything. This kind of shitstorm may blow everything around.
That's especially true now that you pointed out the removal of the breakers.

19. I have no doubt they are going to try to blame this mess on the Democrats
somehow, but it will be pretty difficult for the party that controlled Congress and the White House to do that

Even though Congress technically now has a Democratic majority, it is still razor thin

30. Then the Democrats need to be ready to start hammering away at how this is the fault of 2000 to '06,
and the economic policies of the Republican congress.
