CBC News

The Conservatives have solidified a substantial lead among Canadian voters, thanks at least in part to a lack of confidence in Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion, according to an opinion poll released on Sunday.

The Canadian Press Harris-Decima poll, conducted Sept. 10 to 13, gave the Conservatives 40 per cent support across Canada, followed by the Liberals at 26 per cent.

The NDP had the support of 15 per cent of respondents, followed by the Green party at nine per cent and the Bloc Québécois at eight per cent.

Respondents to the poll were asked the following question: "If a federal election were being held tomorrow, who do you think you'd be voting for in your area?"

Dion was the only major party leader to register a negative impression with Canadians. Fifty-five per cent of respondents to the poll had an unfavourable opinion of the Liberal leader, compared with 34 per cent who reported a favourable opinion of Dion. ......(more)

8. Also, a lot of issues in Canada are mainly controlled by Provincial governments..
so if you live in a reasonable province, it may not be so disastrous even if the national government is RW.

11. 40% of the country feels that the conservatives would rule like neocons if
they get a majority instead of the minority government they have had. Who knows if we would still have health care.

3. doh
when u have 3 parties that divide the progressive and moderate vote, the other party tends to benefit...

putting the liberal, NDP, and green numbers together gives u the percentage of sane people ;)

9. The Liberals won't get in until Dion is gone. He's even a weaker leader than

Kim Campbell or Joe Clark for the Tories.

10. Not surprising, the Canadian financial system is still sound for the most part....
So there is no sense of "failure" atm. Give it a year or two.
