Revolt of the FOX NEWS bunnies: McCain Loses Fox News: Megyn Kelly Rips McCain Flack...
McCain Loses Fox News: Megyn Kelly Rips McCain Flack For Claiming Obama Would Raise Middle Class Taxes»

On Fox News today, host Megyn Kelly called out McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds for the campaign’s lies about Sen. Barack Obama’s (D-IL) tax proposals. “I want to hold you accountable for what McCain is doing,” said Kelly. “Has your candidate gone too far, has he stretched the truth with the voters?”

Bounds initially attempted to dismiss her question, claiming that McCain has simply “gone to great lengths to discuss Barack Obama’s record.” “It is true that during a struggling economy, he proposes raising taxes,” declared Bounds.

“Not on the middle class,” shot back Kelly, noting that “virtually every independent analyst” has said that the McCain campaign is lying:...http://thinkprogress.org/2008/09/15/kelly-bounds-taxes/

1. For some reason, Rupert Murdoch has bailed on McCain. I wonder why?
First the National Enquirer, now Fox.

25. He met with Roger Ailes before the O'Reilly interview.
http://www.zimbio.com/member/rjtmom/articles/2476789/Obama+Drops+Boycott+Fox+News+Channel

In the Washington Post, an article appeared by Howard Kurtz on September 3. Kurtz writes of a secret meeting between Obama and Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes and Rpert Murdock, the network's owner which happened three months ago. The meeting happened at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in Manhattan and Obama brought with him David Axelrod and Robert Gibbs.

"I just wanted to know if I'm going to get a fair shake from Fox News Channel, " Ailes recalled him saying. "Senator, you're the one who boycotted us," Ailes says he replied. We're not the ones who boycotted you. Nor did we retaliate for your boycott."

You may remember it was John Edwards who initially demanded all Democrat presidential candidates boycott Fox News, at the insistence of the far left blogs. Rather than show political courage and independence - some say change- the Democrat candidates fell into line and allowed themselves to be dictated to for fear of loss of support.

13. A lot of corporatists are bailing on McCain. It is the showdown
between the Corporate Fundamentalists and the Religious Fundamentalist.

33. I agree with you.
I think at least some of the GOP's corporate faction would choose to lose this election to reassert their control of the party.

They're fine with tossing red meat to the fundamentalists, but they're never allowed near actual power. Just look at how the conservative press responded to Huckabee's early primary win-- they eviscerated him.

Palin in the number 2 seat behind an elderly man with health problems is potentially handing control to the fundamentalists, and I agree-- the corporate faction would rather see Democrats control the country than see fundamentalists control their party.

43. There are different flavors of fundamentalism, though
Huckabee seemed to share Jesus's "bias to the poor", whereas Palin's religion is much more rooted in the Calvinist idea that material wealth is a sign (the only sign, in fact) that one is part of the Elect. McCamy has written on this here on DU.

44. That's a good point.
Perhaps all fundamentalism is not equally objectionable to the corporate types.

21. FWIW, Murdoch doesn't own the National Enquirer
Perhaps you weren't suggesting that. Kind of sounded that way though. The Enquirer is owned by American Media Inc. (AMI). Some years back AMI bought Murdoch's The Star though.

40. I did think that Murdoch owned the Enquirer! Thank you for that correction.
AMI is not part of Murdoch's empire?

42. You're welcome. AMI is separate, almost like a low-rent News Corp.
Frightening to think it's possible to sink lower than Murdoch, but it's true.

Adding to the confusion is that AMI bought Murdoch's The Star and has another tabloid called Sun, which is awfully similar in name to Rupert's The Sun. For my money though, the jewel in the AMI crown is the Weekly World News, which almost makes the Enquirer seem like the New York Times in comparison.

31. Because of Palin
She wasn't who they wanted, McCain's choice was an act of desperation.

They thought they could get the frustrated Hillary supporters and the religious right all at once.

The did not vet her and that is backfiring on them - they have spent more time defending her and spreading her lies than they have campaigning on the issues.

19. FAUX9 in the Twin Cities is doing a series on the RNC arrests
Edited on Mon Sep-15-08 10:11 AM by kickysnana
Last night the reporter just interviews the 19 year woman old who chose to hold her ground rather than be herded and arrested out of sight of the media on the last evening of the RNC.

The protester was repeatedly pepper sprayed, knocked to the ground, held down so she couldn't;t breathe and surrounded by police bikes while another policeman tried to get the FAUX cameraman to stop shooting and move away. Another policeman was spraying pepper spray at their feet saying he know who they were and they needed to move on. These were Minneapolis officers.

It is not going away here and I was very surprised that it was on FAUX9. (They have local news on at 9 instead of 10 and auntie goes to bed at 10). We usually mute the propaganda and watch the local news.)

28. I tend to think of the local Fox affiliates as much less evil than the cable news Fox.
I've lived in three different regions of the country in the past 8 years (Rocky Mountains, deep South, and New England). In each of those places I've found the local Fox news broadcast has been pretty accurate, and MUCH less sensationalistic than their corporate overlords.

22. I swear, sometimes...
I think McCain is being Punk'd by Rove and Bush. It's almost like it's the final insult of the campaign against him they began in 2000. It's like they knew they would lose the election so they figured they might as well destroy that asshole McCain in the process. Why else would Rove go on Faux news to say that McCain has "gone too far" with ads that have Rove's own fingerprints all over them? Why else would they saddle him with the most pathetic VP candidate in history? By the time this campaign is done, the illusion of McCain's "integrity" will be completely destroyed - and I can just imagine Bush, Rove, and Cheney having a good evil chuckle over that in Cheney's lair.

35. This is well written article,
mentions the sit-down between Murdoch and Obama, and offers a really interesting perspective on Murdoch. Sometimes it helps to remember that these powerful people are ultimately people. It doesn't change whether or not they should beheld accountable for the way they wield their influence, but it can be really refreshing to change the view.
