A plea to DU- Please let us save Troy Davis's life.
There is reason to believe that Troy Davis is innocent. And yet he is to be executed in just over seven days.

Let's send messages using this Amnesty International link. Think about it. Would you want people to try and save you if you were about to be killed? Please, my previous posts didn't receive the support they deserved.

This is the last chance to save this man. We believe he is INNOCENT.

3. K & R He has only 8 days left.

I am for the possibility of death penalty in murder cases, but there are too many issues with the witnesses for me to feel ok about this one.

7. Where does the truth lie?
Date of scheduled execution State Victim name Inmate name Status
July 17, 2007 Georgia Mark Allen MacPhail, 27 Troy Davis stayed

"At midnight on August 18, 1989, Mark Allen MacPhail, a Savannah police officer, reported for work as a security guard at the Greyhound bus station in Savannah, adjacent to a fast-food restaurant. According to court records, Troy Anthony Davis shot into a car that was leaving a party on Cloverdale Drive in a Savannah subdivision and struck a man in the head, severely injuring him by a bullet that lodged in his right jaw. A few hours later, as the Burger King restaurant was closing, a fight broke out in which Davis struck a homeless man in the head with a pistol. Officer MacPhail, wearing his police uniform -- including badge, shoulder patches, gun belt, .38 revolver and nightstick -- ran to the scene of the disturbance. Davis fled. When Officer MacPhail ordered him to halt, Davis turned around and shot him. Officer MacPhail fell to the ground. Davis, smiling, walked up to the stricken officer and shot him two more times. The officer's gun was still in his holster. Mark MacPhail wore a bullet-proof vest, but the vest did not cover his sides and the fatal bullet entered the left side of his chest, penetrated his left lung and aorta, and came to rest at the back of his chest cavity. The officer was also shot in the left cheek and the right leg. The next afternoon, Davis told a friend that he had been involved in an argument at the restaurant the previous evening and struck someone with a gun. He told the friend that when a police officer ran up, Davis shot him and that he went to the officer and "finished the job" because he knew the officer got a good look at his face when he shot him the first time. After his arrest, Davis told a cellmate a similar story. A shell casing that was found at the scene of the murder was linked to the Cloverdale Drive shooting. A woman who was staying in a hotel across the street from where Mark MacPhail was murdered identified Troy Davis as the shooter after seeing a photograph of him. She also chose his photo from a 5-person lineup, as well as identified him at his trial. Numerous other eyewitnesses also identified Davis."

8. One wonders why most witnesses recanted, and fingered another man
for the crime. Why would they do that?

21. No can do

If he's innocent, may Nature help his soul, but he's been convicted and I'd assume all the appeals have failed.

I support the death penalty in capital murder cases if the court imposes it. Go ahead and flame, I've heard it all before.

22. I don't believe everything I read and hear.
I posted on this a couple of weeks back, and someone who knows Troy's family personally chimed in on the subject.

Witnesses have recanted their testimonies. They claimed to have been badgered.

I don't know the truth either. But there is doubt. Let alone the subject of killing yet another person. There is doubt. And I sure as hell wouldn't want to put yet another innocent person to their death if it could be avoided.

You've been on this forum long enough to know that just because you read it doesn't make it so. That's much of what happens on this forum. Uncovering lies.

23. I don't believe everything I read and hear, either.
And I don't believe every convict I read or hear who says "I'm innocent."

The standard for conviction is "reasonable doubt," so the issue of doubt has already been resolved.

I know you're being sarcastic, but I'm not.

I admire compassion above all virtues, although I doubt you'll understand how that is possible given my view of this and other similar situations. I would love to be able to help this man - but I'd need a time machine to do it.

27. At least I'm willing to try.
And without any time machine. I have reason to doubt this man's guilt. And I've written to the people who can make that difference. One more dead human doesn't help the situation we find ourselves in on this planet.

31. If he's Innocent
You said it, not me.

Quote from your post:

If he's innocent, may Nature help his soul...

Tell me your reasons for accepting the state sanctioned murders of a few innocent people in return for the murders of the guilty. Is "Nature helping their souls" valid?
