"This is the first truly devastating and powerful Obama ad of the fall campaign. Play it again and again, guys. It will resonate especially with the independents who once liked McCain and now see the hollow cynic he has become"

I think there should be more proof of the deception and sleaziness rather than just people stating that that is what's happening. We need hardcore video of contradictions and lies.

16. I'm sorry. I don't mean to be a downer. I saw the statements and
who they were from . . . but I think that just like here, people will discredit sources as being too far leaning in the opposite direction and the impact will be limited.
I believe we need more video evidence, catching him red-handed, showing his true character.
Just my opinion.

The quote I found below is very distressing. "Rigged court system" .
______
Quote
Regarding September 11, 2001, I am somewhere between OGLIH and OGMIH.  So much of that evidence was shipped out of this country ASAP after those events that I do not think anyone really has the proper hold-in-you-hand evidence that would stand up in a court of law, with no chance at all in a rigged court system which takes upon itself to appoint the President of the USA.

OGLIH (our government let it happen)
OGMIH (our government made it happen)

Another thing to think about is that the National Lawyers Guild had considered charges against the five Supreme court justices who appointed bush.

31. You've got thirty seconds.
Edited on Mon Sep-15-08 04:38 PM by Marr
There's no time to do a video documentary and compare statements. Political TV spots are about creating an impression in the minds of people who don't follow politics closely, and this ad does it well. You're left with the image of McCain the liar, the sellout, the man who wants power so bad that he'll pull any dirty trick to get it. That's the kind of impression that sticks with a person, and many will view his future statements through that lens.

I'm glad to see the Democrats are able to speak like this. I cringe every time they say something kind about McCain, or say he's an "honorable man, but...". That's not how you convince undecided voters.

35. Agreed about our unfortunate and counterproductive need to couch everything in niceties
But there are 60 second ad spots that can be very compelling, I think even in 30 seconds
"no tax cuts" "permanent tax cuts" "no tax cuts" "more tax cuts" "I'm against these tax cuts", "help the oil companies"
pro and anti choice, whatever you name the topic and spend the whole time on one topic if necessary . . . then do another on a different topic
THAT tells people he's untrustworthy and they start looking for the contradictions. They know nothing he says is real so what are they voting for?

12. "OUCH" but
so well deserved, especially, IMO, after telling the VIEW Ladies and their Audience that the tone of the campaign would be different had Obama gone along with his plan to do Town Hall meetings together. That excuse for running a sleazy campaign sounds so much like some petty criminal saying I wouldn't have beat him up if he would have just given me his money when I asked for it.

... right after the McLame people got so indignant about the "lipstick" remark KO showed footage of McLame using the same phrase four times in the recent past. And of course McLame's audiences yucked it up when they heard him say it. If the Obama people would run this it would show what hypocrites they are.

Citing those sources is great for all of us confirmed Obama supporters but it doesn't mean squat to the undecided. Show them McAnus stating that he opposes torture with a date stamp on it, then show them McAnus saying that he approves of torture with a date stamp on it.

There are at least 20 or 30 easy examples to use. And you can't accuse the "liberal media" of fabricating them.

Edited to say, check out the other anti-McAnus ad on DU featuring one of McPOW's fellow prisoners-of-war who says that being a POW does not make one fit to be President.

45. I don't think this ad is effective because it has no specifics
for those who are already programmed to think it, this will reinforce for them that the media is liberal bias. There's one thing the ad is missing - SPECIFICS!

it's actually a JOKE if you watch it a few times. it says McCain is a liar and the media says he's a liar. that's it. where's the beef? why don't they show a video of him LYING? duh.

ineffective.

unless you give an EXAMPLE of how he is not taking the low road, it is just an empty claim.

siting news headlines saying he lies is nothing but empty claims.

you don't just say "he lies"

53. That's my point!
showing the headlines from the Chicago newspaper saying McCain is a sleezebag doesn't do ANYTHING.

show us HOW he is a sleezebag

show us an EXAMPLE of him being a sleezebag.

show him saying something and then disprove it, showing he is a liar

stop telling us ABOUT it.
SHOW us.

that's how you get the job done.

it's much more effective to show a video of mccain lying, than to show a headline of a newspaper that says he's a liar.

This should be a no-brainer.

The ad has the right intention but it does not accomplish its goal effectively.
