BBC: Iran 'sending weapons to Taleban'

By Kate Clark

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7616429.stm

BBC News, Afghanistan

Elements in the Iranian state are sending weapons across the border to the Taleban in Afghanistan, a BBC investigation has uncovered.

Taleban members said they had received Iranian-made arms from elements in the Iranian state and from smugglers.

The UK says its troops have intercepted arms which it believes were given by a group within the Iranian state.

The Iranian embassy in Kabul dismissed the allegations, saying Tehran supported the Afghan government.

'It's called Dragon'

Among the Taleban, Iranian-made weapons are greatly sought after in the fight against the government of Hamid Karzai and the Nato and US-led forces deployed to support him.

6. Ok let me understand, US is/was backing Pakistan and now attacking forces inside there. Now this BS
about Iran and taliban. Are they suggesting to attack Iran? Pakistan has no one supporting them. Russia supports Iran. Are we crazy or really really really want to start a war with Russia. Maybe that's the only way to get McLame elected.

Thanks BBC for your invaluable lies.

8. Again?

Just Where Are Those Iranian Weapons That the Bushies Say Are Flooding Iraq?

By Gareth Porter, IPS News. Posted May 23, 2008.

---------
A U.S. explosives expert, Maj. Marty Weber, confirmed in April 2007 that most 107mm rockets found in Iraq were Chinese-made. He claimed that Iran had repainted Chinese 60mm and 107mm rockets them and sold them on the "open market".

However, Chinese, Yugoslav and Pakistani 107mm rockets have also been the weapon of choice of Taliban guerrillas in Afghanistan, according to U.S.
military officers there.

The U.S. military has refrained from making any charges against Iran over the 107mm rockets found in Iraq, perhaps because it would support the conclusion that the Mahdi Army was buying weapons on the international market rather than obtaining them from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.

In weapons caches reported from Shiite locations, not a single RPG-29 has been identified. Of the 160 RPG launchers reported in Mahdi Army caches, along with 800 RPG missiles, none were identified as Iranian, although some were identified as being Soviet-made. Only 11 were reported to be RPG-7s - a type of launcher that is made by Russia and China as well as Iran and used by 40 countries around the world.
