The narrative is compelling in these crazy bloated times.

At the end of the article I learned she was a Republican, and I felt a sinking feeling that something like this would happen- just never dreamed it would come so quickly.

This is like if in battle in the 1800's your enemy picked up your flag from the field and charged with it into your own line.

They are attacking us on our strength, reform. We are the true reformers. I think holding fast to that message is the way to win this war.

1. Reformer?
She "took on the oil companies" that she is so tight with to "force" them to give Alaskans another $1200 each - in effect, BRIBING the entire populace of Alaska to back her and now, safely wedged into the hearts and pocketbooks of the public, she supports a MASSIVE expansion of oil company influence through new pipelines and new drilling which will give them billions of dollars of new profits.

Not a bad trade off for the oil companies - $1200 to each of 100,000 families for who knows how many billions in (government subsidized) profits.

Just how that is "reforming" I don't quite get.

2. I saw a piece on her from Bill Moyers.
Can't go get it right now but it was a persuasive narrative. Know thine enemy is my point.

5. Yes, a great many people WANT abortions -
because that is their best option of many bad options.

And when it comes to fundies, they are psychologically incapable of NOT "seeking to enforce (their) own personal viewpoint".

If left to her, Roe v Wade is dead. If left to her, creationism will have equal footing with real science.

8. Wasn't seeking to... what?!?
Riiiiiight. Like she wasn't seeking to impose her own "personal viewpoint" of Xtianist fundamentalism when she wanted to ban books in the public library or push teaching creationism in the public schools.

And if one abortion is one too many, why is she against sex education and contraception? If I had been impregnated by rape, you're damn straight I'd want an abortion PRONTO, but she doesn't even want to allow abortion in the case of rape.

The main thing fundies want to do is legislate their viewpoint and impose it on everyone else!

9. That poster was making your point.

I guess the poster neglected the sarcasm tag but I'm pretty sure that was the intent. Everyone here understands that SP et al certainly do intend to legislate their viewpoint.

Thanks.

16. Some prime time news show yesterday started their segment on her with people standing around
speaking in tongues.

OK, I love Jesus, but DAMN. They did not look like people you would want running the country, and...they aren't going to.

7. Wow.
Hi, how are you. I'm a Democrat. I'm a precinct president. I'm an Obama volunteer, district organizer, worked for Dean, worked for Kerry.

But you have a point. Why would I feel comfortable here, at Democratic Underground?

Maybe you didn't read my post very closely. It looks like you aren't the only one.

I started to restate my point so you can understand but realized there is no reason to bother.

I thought "Yeah, she's gonna come apart like wonder bread in this election." Woot!

13. Funny thing, today walking home from school, a young man was walking
right behind me, talking on his cell phone. As he got nearer and passed me, his conversation was unavoidable; he was saying that he thought Palin was going to mow over Biden in the debate.

I stopped and looked right at him and said, "you don't know much about Joe Biden."

He is going to field dress her arguments, right there on national TV. BUT being right hasn't done us much good for the last 8 years. He's going to need to do more than that- he's going to need to persuade people that he can lead this country, and she can't.

I have every faith in him.

This is the first time I've ever followed all the ins and outs of an election from beginning to end. It's been exciting!

17. Both she and McCain said they believe Roe V Wade should be overturned.
McCain said he would appoint justices that would agree.

They are a nightmare.

19. This was a really illuminating thread.
Somehow people reading got the idea that I agree with her. Thought it was clear that I don't, can't, never would.

The story was a long while back, more than a couple of months. It covered her work in a positive way, leaving her party till the end. It didn't cover her right wing tendancies.

I know she is against Roe, and I will do everything I can to see that she stays in Alaska.

I sometimes scan posts too...I did so to a responder here. Hope we are all a little more astute out there in the real world.

OK!
