This is not a minor question.

AIG stock tumbled today... and they are in trouble

What happens if they go into Chapter II?

If you thought things could not get far worst in the gulf post Ike.....

My tummy aches for those folks

1. I was wondering this too. Or, if they don't fold before the claims
...would Ike finish them off?

2. My husband's 401-k is managed by AIG...
he tried calling the representative of the account at his job and there was no answer. Should he withdraw his funds?

4. But they have assets and I was just reading that they can borrow $20 billion
from subsidiaries if the Reserve doesn't loan them the money they need.

Too soon to tell, but definitely yet another needless worry for those folks right now.

5. They'll be downgraded
I have a very strong feeling that AIG will be downgraded by Wednesday.

6. I moved my funds 2 years ago
when AIG was in trouble over something else, which seems minor compared to now.

Not a good sign when your Rep. does not answer phone.
In order to move/cash out retirement funds, paperwork has to be done.

8. AIG has a huge Houston office that handles annuities.
Mayhaps it was washed away.
