1. I don't see any "backfiring"
They're playing to the people who love soundbites and pithy quotes, and they're winning.

It's no time to gloat, alas. I wonder when Obama and Biden are going to start showing some balls.

3. What do you mean?
Specifically, what is it they aren't doing or you're not seeing them do, that you want them to do?

4. Specifically, they're doing nothing
I've seen a couple of very good ads on TV, and that's about it. The Republicans are controlling the airwaves, regardless of whether their "messages" are positive or negative; they're getting the coverage, and that's what matters. Obama/Biden, meanwhile, are being overlooked. They've been reduced to only a defensive posture, striking back, albeit with a minimum of strength, when the Republicans make an especially egregious charge.

I'm tired of Democrats being reactive, defensive. I want them to be strong and to take the lead.

6. Yes
It's great. It's one ad.

One ad isn't any kind of match for all the coverage McPOW and Palin are getting.

He who controls the media wins the election. Karl Rove taught us that, and they're doing it again.

Being high-minded and civil is all well and good once you've won, but, in order to win, you have to be a street fighter.

7. When your own chief Rove calls you out
You're lying. Sarah's refusal to speak to the legislative investigators in Alaska will now make Troopergate a big story. Go MCLIAR! Go Paliar!! Sarah is a lying lightweight.

8. And Obama isn't covered
That call-out by Rove was deliberate and contrived. Do you honestly believe that Rove suddenly grew a conscience? Don't you find that a bit hard to believe?

It's all about dominating the airwaves, and they're doing it brilliantly.

Don't fall for it. Obama's a mere shadow these days; it's all Palin/McPOW, all the time. That's all they're all talking about.

11. I've been watching and waiting
and it's been getting worse.

Consider the time since the Democratic convention, which was three weeks ago.

Obama's hardly getting any coverage.

I gave the maximum allowed to the Obama camp, and I wish I could give more. But, frankly, my heart is breaking. There is nothing to indicate that this week will be any different from last week. To think so is to sound like every battered woman who ever came to my office with a broken nose and black eyes who couldn't be deterred from going back to the man who beat her up.

10. Do you live in a swing state? I don't agree that they're not "doing anything"
Edited on Mon Sep-15-08 08:51 PM by Breeze54
at all. My TV has been unundated with some pretty hard hitting ads all week and it really ramped up last night and today! Obama was on CO. giving a blistering speech today and Biden did the same in Michigan. Hillary Clinton was also out there giving speeches.

What are you doing to help get them elected?

I've posted twice in the last day or so, asking people to start calling swing state voters and also to go to or host a "calling party" to mobilize volunteers in swing states on September 21st, but I don't recall you having replied in any of those threads. Maybe you did on some one else's though. Are you doing any canvassing or calling? They can't win this alone! They need our help if we're going to take our country back. I'm not trying to lecture you or point fingers but I am wondering what you're involved in, besides DU, helping to make it happen?

12. I've donated the maximum
How much have you given?

For four decades, I've gotten out the vote, and the last two cycles have left me dispirited.

So, I give lots of money. Because, frankly, it's time for the younger generations to do that kind of work.

I live in Virginia, definitely a swing state, and there are some ads showing, but not a whole lot of them. The coverage even on KO and Rachel Maddow is all about Republicans.

If they can control the media, they will take the election.

And they are controlling the media. I've seen this one before, and now, it's just sad.
