The first 17 pictures in the slideshow are of the devastation of people's homes. Wait until you see the last picture of the slide show.

7. There are so many things to say about these photos...
I lived on a barrier island, Cocoa Beach, Florida, for sixteen years. Severe storms were standard issue, but we only had a few hurricane blow through the entire time I lived there. I'm amazed anything at all is left standing in Galvaston. It's virtually identical to Cocoa Beach -- much of it barely at sea level, most of it unprotected by seawalls. These places are built on fucking sandbars. Literally, no hyperbole...they're sandbars. It's lunacy to rebuild in these places. I'd be emotionally crushed if Cocoa Beach, my home town, just vanished from the maps. But it's what nature intended...that's why Galvaston and Cocoa Beach are called "barrier islands." They're just barricades, natural seawalls, to the mainland. Building on them is fucking stupid.

This picture, I can't explain it any other way except that it absolutely crushes my heart. It leaves no room for words, only tears of profound sadness, frustration and rage, and it will forever burn in my memory. I L-O-A-T-H this administration.

22. OMG
I hadn't seen that photo before. I made myself sick with grief and fury after Katrina, this brings it all back. Of all the twisted things BushCo have done, this was the most unforgivable act for me.

Thank you for sharing that.

26. If there is one single photo from katrina that says it all, this one's it for me.
There have been pictures in the past that have been burned into my memory over the 4+ decades of my life, good and bad. And out of the many heartbreaking and devastating pics that came as a result of katrina this is the one I'll not ever forget. That woman's face and expression... say so much:cry:

You don't want George W. Bush to care about the country, you don't don't want George W. Bush to care about people (mostly because you noticed that George W. Bush doesn't care about the country or people), and now you're saying that you don't don't want George W. Bush to care about oil and pipelines! Well, what do you libruls want George W. Bush to care about?! Anyway? Arrest my case!

37. I hate to break this to DU
and I hate to defend Bush even more, BUT...

maybe paying attention to the oil refineries and pipelines isn't necessarily a bad or "evil" thing to do. Perhaps it's good for the President to be aware of any disruptions in oil output or supply.

Please don't attack me for this, all I am simply saying is that the President should be concerned with relief efforts AS WELL AS infrastructure and energy concerns. If it's Pres. Obama he should be doing the same thing.

Flame away.
