McCain=Hoover
"The fundamental business of the country, that is production and distribution of commodities, is on a sound and prosperous basis."
President Herbert Hoover, in a press conference on October 30, 1929, the day following the Stock Market Crash, on the eve of the Great Depression

"Any lack of confidence in the economic future of the United States is foolish."
President Herbert Hoover, two weeks after the Stock Market Crash, November 15, 1929

"Our economy I think, still, the fundamentals of our economy are strong."
Candidate for president, John McCain, on September 15, 2008, the day the Dow Jones average fell 504 points following Lehman Brothers declaring bankruptcy, Merrill Lynch being sold emergently and concerns arose about AIG's imminent failure

"Our economy in crisis. Only proven reformers John McCain and Sarah Palin can fix it."
New McCain campaign ad, same day, September 15, 2008

1. Both Believe The "Markets Correct"
Hoover, to his credit, was a capable manager, but surrounded himself with corrupt bosses and industrialists. Gramps is clueless about managing and is totally in love with Phil Gramm, who Paul Krugman cited would take this economy into a full-blown depression (if it isn't too late already). Both saw government as "the problem"...but while Hoover was for trade tarrifs, Gramps is dominated by those who want to outsource and off shore. Each created a mess of the banking and credit markets...and both Gramps and Hoover favored "solutions" from those who got us into the mess in the first place.

The GOOP long has lived in fantasyland that you can reduce government (which they never do) and cut taxes...until they really need government. Don't you dare touch defense spending or subsidies to big tobacco or farmers...it's always these same asshats who, when in need, believe it's their "due".

Cheers...

3. True. Hoover had a lot of experience in many areas.
Edited on Tue Sep-16-08 06:52 AM by tannybogus
He was a mining engineer, a Secretary of Commerce, and he organized food relief for Europe after WWI. He had a lot more managing experience. What he did was worse because he at least had a background in business and management. He was extremely intelligent, and one would think he could have foreseen some problems. Then again, intelligence hasn't proved to be a measure of much in this mess.
McCain is completely clueless, and Palin isn't worth discussing. McCain will obviously believe anything Gramm tells him.
Gramm help pass measures that help start this whole mess.:hi:

4. It's Letting The Crooks "Fix" The Problem
People need to know that Gramm is just one of a cadre of lobbyists who are the base of Camp Gramps. You can look at the list...Charlie Black, Randy Shuenemann, Gramm and now Timmons who would handle his "transition" (what a horrible thought that is)...and it's nothing but lobbyists and profiteers who are gonna keep this ponzi scheme going for as long as they possibly can.

One pattern we've seen in Gramps in the past few weeks is how impulsive he is...making a quick move rather than the smart or right one. Be it playing hero of Georgia to the Palin fiasco to his many lies and flip-flops, his judgement has become a major issue.

:hi:

2. Looks like the neoliberals got what they wanted.
Now they're in denial.

And who is McHoover to say what he thinks about the economy? He's already said he doesn't know anything about it. But not to worry, if he is elected he will make the genius Phil Gramm Treasury Secretary.
