Where are all those stories about those who decided to rideout Ike? I'm
beginning to fear there are no stories and the death toll must be as bad as NO.

1. I read that Galveston officials are restricting media access and are not allowing
city personnel to talk to reporters.

2. My roomie
Is still awaiting word from a friend who could not get out in time. The New York Times website yesterday had some pictures of survivors being loaded up on buses.

4. They've covered up N.O. for three years, I suspect we'll hear about this
sometime in late January, if ever.

6. The Houston/Galveston Area is Basically Shut down
My best friend drove up to stay with us in Dallas. He could not even get a phone call out on a cell until he was well outside the area.

He had been without electricity since early Saturday.

He said things were a bit better in the Houston Metro area but towards Galveston there was no food or supplies to be had.

He commented several times they were told to stay put (he was not ON Galveston Island but between Galveston and Houston.) He was surprised they did not order an evacuation. He said this was MUCH worse then Rita. They also did not want people who rode out the storm to leave areas, even those without supplies. They basically wanted everyone to stay put. He said hunger and a need for AC made him move.
