13. I live in a suburb of Los Angeles...
Now, LA is largely blue...

Out here on the coast, though, we are more purple...

There are a lot of rich Republicans in my town, but thankfully, most of them are moderates...

I've seen one McCain yard sign, and one bumper sticker too...

Lots and lots of Obama bumper stickers!

Not many yard signs yet, but those are on order.

CA will go for Obama...and I think my little town will as well.

19. I am in an avocado state
although my county was recently mauve with flecks of sage and taupe.

CNN is so laughable - inventing colors to make this seem more like a horse race than it is.

The stupid thing here if you're a political commentator is to color states rather than demographics. Who is AARP (and members) likely to back? What age groups do likely voters populate across? Are there factors in addition to state residency that influence those likely voters? Why do we give a shit about the undecided/tossups? They rarely end up voting anyway - they mostly just seem to like the attention, or else vote conservatively in the end.

This ain't a horse race, and the news ain't new.

Funny thing here, is that I have seen very few McCain bumper stickers and signs, although I am seeing loads of Ron Paul signs, and I even saw a couple of Huckabee bumper stickers this week.

Of course living in San Carlos...we still see a lot of "Duncan Hunter" signs fading out that people won't remove from their yards.

And it's boring as hell. I mean, it's nice to live in a blue state, but we never have a ground game here for the national races. When I volunteered for Edwards the only place where I could make a real difference in the primaries was in Iowa, and Nevada.

By the way, I take 100% of the credit for the second place finish in Iowa.

I am having a hard time going out in public lately without my blood pressure going up...especially in local restaurants where I have heard people singing the praises of Palin, and dubbing Obama as the antichrist :grr:. I know there are Obama supporters around, but it seems the republicans are much more vocal...many are tough-talking, ignorant and clearly racist.

As a Connecticut native...moving to this area of Florida has definitely been a culture shock.

33. Georgia - among the reddest of the red.
There are way too many social conservatives here. The Repukes could run a loaf of bread as their nominee, but if they could teach that loaf of bread to parrot talking points about abortion and gay marriage, then it would carry Georgia by an easy 10-20% margin.

Although I live in a fairly progressive area of Atlanta, the state, on the whole, is very red. Way too red for my tastes. :(

More "bidness major" red than pure Redneckistanian, but all are a short drive away.

Fairfield Cty, CT. My city has a Repug mayor & city governance, but we elected a Dem to Congress (Chris Murphy, replacing Nancy Johnson in '06) Also have a Repug governor (Jodi Rell - not too much of a wingnut, more in the mold of moderate). State Senate and House are controlled by Dems. The rest of our Congressional delegation is Dem, except Chris Shays.

to the suburbs much, but I have noticed A LOT more Dem signs in suburban yards this election compared to 2004. Sure, it helps that Obama is the senator from Illinois, but if some of the lily-white, generally Republican suburbs of Chicago can turn blue, I think it's a good sign.

It's mostly rural and socially conservative but quite populist economically. It has went Republican in the last few elections mainly because of social issues and guns. I live in the biggest city in the district, Moorhead (which is right across the river from Fargo, ND), which is also probably the most liberal place in the district.

Edited on Tue Sep-16-08 02:54 PM by doc03
Republicans 2-1. The Democrats control all our local offices. But when it comes to the national elections we had a Republican Congressman until he went to prison (Bob Ney). I can take a drive around this area and McCain yard signs are like weeds popping up. I can only think of one Obama sign I have seen. What really hurts the Democrats as far as the national elections is the old guns, gays and God BS the Republicans always pull. Now it is obvious to everyone the last 8 years have been a disaster and most any Democrat would easily win but many of these people just can't bring themselves to vote for a black man.

edited for spelling

61. Fuschia.
In Arkansas, we tend to go red in presidential politics, but in House and Senate seats, as well as our state races, we go blue (much of that is due to tradition and the fact that we don't have much of an organized Republican Party to speak of), but are still very conservative, yet populist, in outlook.

In 1968, we voted for Winthrop Rockefeller (R) for govenor, J. William Fulbright (D) for Senate, and George Wallace (I) for president. No pigeon-holing us.

...that this season is going kind of purple : VA.

I am one of those voters that could not even conceive of missing a chance to cast my ballot, but since moving here it's just that much more exciting on Election Day.

The Senate election for Jim Webb was won by a difference of less than 500 votes (if I remember correctly) and once just had the sense that Yes! Every Single Vote Mattered.

I will be over the moon if the pendulum swings in favor of Obama this Nov.

65. Texas - Red
I am severely outnumbered at work. In fact, the fundies think I'm kind of a "find" because I dare to think differently than they do.

And the fundies I'm around divide into two categories and two categories only: the ones who think only about money, and the ones that think only about being prolife. Nothing in between on any other subject. The war in Iraq is practically never even discussed because it doesn't personally affect any of them.

But hell, Texas can't help it that George Bush says he's from here. We all know he isn't really a Texan.

73. Monmouth County New Jersey--Purple
Locally Republicans rule. Our congressional districts however are dark Blue. Frank Pallone and Rush Holt are two of the most reliably progressive members of Congress. The shore communities love Pallone's environmentalism and Holt (the my Congressman IS a rocket scientist) guy, gets the big brain vote that lives in and around Princeton as well as fiscal conservatives who like his no nonsense approach to spending. My town, Little Silver, is dark red but we're in Holt's district so I am quite happy with my Congressman.

77. Red area, red state
Northeast Tennessee..have not seen any McSame signs or stickers..have seen a few Obama though..most people I talk to say they are voting for Obama(except for the gun gurus and the fundies, idiots)
By the way, most of you know that Wallyworld had meetings with all levels of mgmt to tell them that it was in their best interest not to vote for Obama. Well, guess what? It has backfired on them. More and more associates are whispering in the halls how they will damn sure vote for Obama now, considering that Wallyworld execs have never told them the truth about anything. Bet they are regretting those meetings now. LOL! Have only heard of 2 associates voting for McSame in the entire store where I live. That is out of 450 associates in a red state.:toast:
