Disgusting ad campaign just started in Ohio!
Watching what I can get with my rabbit ears today & saw a gross commercial on FOX. Here's the info:

http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/09/16/politics/horserace/entry4452918.shtml

"Can you imagine not giving babies their basic human rights no matter how they entered our world?" Jessen asks in the ad as photographs of babies appear onscreen.

"If Barack Obama had his way, I wouldn't be here," she continues. "Four times Barack Obama voted to oppose a law to protect babies left to die after failed abortions. Senator Obama, please support born alive infant protections. I'm living proof these babies have a right to live."

Gianna Jessen is the lady in the commercial. Would LOVE to find out that she's lying thru her anti-choice teeth.

1. We need an immidiate hit back..
10 OB/GYN's in an ad all saying that in the State of Illinois it's already part of the law to save any baby born that is breathing. X number of babies were saved in 2007, and Obama loves all babies.. full of pictures of Obama holding a couple of babies while smiling. And then wrapping up with "Republicans again fabricating Obama's voting record? Who's surprised it's just more of the same".

3. Oh, Gianna sounds like the real thing, for sure.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gianna_Jessen

The world is full of crazies. Looks like this one was crazy even before she was born.

Welcome to DU, by the way!

5. Why crazy?
Obviously I don't think this is a winning issue for McCain, but I don't see why the girl should be labeled as crazy.

8. Because her story is too pat,
and a bit difficult to believe. If she was adopted, how did she get the details of her birth? Those records belong to the birth mother, not to the child.

That's why I think she's one of the crazies.

Welcome to DU.

10. Thanks for the welcome
Apparently the state of California noted on her birth papers that she was the product of a failed abortion. I'm not really certain what is "pat" about her story. I'm certain that it is rare indeed for an abortion to be screwed up so badly. My guess is the mother lied about how far along her pregnancy was. But I don't see her as crazy. If her story is true I can understand this being a personal issue for it. Not to say that it should be a presidential issue. But I can see kinda being pissed about it.

17. Yeah, I can understand why she would feel bad
Not the best way to come into the world- a failed abortion.

However, she's also allowed herself to become a republican tool. She really thinks the GOP have a great respect for life? After Katrina and Iraq?

21. The state of California WHAT?
What are "birth papers"? As far as I know - and please correct me if I'm wrong - the only thing a state issues when a child is born is a birth certificate. And nowhere on that birth certificate are the details of the child's birth beyond weight, length, time of birth, place of birth, mother's name, father' name, doctor's name, and so forth.

I look forward to learning what you know about these "birth papers."

How did she get this information?

7. Bingo
Sounds too pat to me. CP kids are born in a variety of ways. I would like to know the details, but I suspect they're as forbidden to me as they are to Gianna.

Shouldn't she be mad at her mother for Obviously going to the cheapest abortion clinc in town?

No I am to young to know this but does it really take 18 hours to perform an Abortion?

4. I found another thing....
"there is no legal time limit for abortion in America" What?!?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1504652/Gianna-Jessen-was-aborted-at-7andfrac12-months.-She-survived.-Astonishingly,-she-has-forgiven-her-mother-for-trying-to-kill-her..html

Right-wing propaganda to the extreme. Google also reveals "Gianna" if that's even her real name, as a Christian recording artist & pro-life activist. Would LOVE to prove she's full of moosepoop. Our mission is clear!

Many thanks for the welcome! Long time reader, only recent frequent poster. You folks are helping to keep me sane!

9. And another thing!
Were abortions at 7.5 months legal in 1977? There's lot to debunk here.

Even if what she says is true, and I'm doubtful, is she the only 1 they can find? That's kind of interesting too!

12. I believe there is only one, maybe two states where a 7.5 month abortion is legal now
Edited on Tue Sep-16-08 06:04 PM by slackmaster
Other than the mother's life being in danger. Louisiana comes to mind.

That's a very good avenue to pursue for a fact check. I hope someone who knows a lot about the subject (I surely don't) picks it up fast.

14. use the googles
I just typed in abortion survivors and on a cursery glance at the hits on the first pages she seems to be the only one.

But the real point is Obama is not in favor of infanticide. That's just another out and out LIE. Not a distortion or a mis-truth. An f'n LIE.

15. Present California law protects infants prematurely born in the course of an abortion
From the Health and Safety Code:

123435. The rights to medical treatment of an infant prematurely
born alive in the course of an abortion shall be the same as the
rights of an infant of similar medical status prematurely born
spontaneously.

I believe that has been the case since 1973.

16. Allegedly there are more.
I googled as well. Unfortunately all of the other survivors are listed on obviously anti-choice sites, so I'm not certain that they would be convincing as evidence. But there are others that make similar claims.

Does anyone know how many people have stories similar to that of Gianna Jessen? I'd never heard of such a thing until now. I'll bet it's extremely rare, and maybe she's the only one.

...and I wouldn't dump on her without knowing for sure she's a fake. I doubt there's many abortion survivors around and of those, how would they even know? But piling on this woman could blow up big time. Would they trot her out if she wasn'r for real?

20. the only abortion survivor story I heard
was a woman who went into get one early in her pregnancy, thought it went according to plan, but then discovered months later, when it was too late to do anything about it, that she was still pregnant. She sued the doctor.

I don't know if the doctor did screw up. Its been suggested she was carrying twins, and the doctor missed the other one.

I don't think these nutjobs have a leg to stand on, and fence sitters probably won't be swayed by such a lame argument. But you never know, and the more time we have to shit on this campaign the better.

Glad it's not coming out in October.

25. I saw this ad during a local ad block on Rachel Maddow's show tonight.
Unbelievable. Easily the stupidest ad I've seen in this state since one in the early '80s that related to a state issue regarding use of leghold traps in hunting. The anti-trap lobby came up with the most absurd ad ever to illustrate what happens to an animal caught in such a trap: it showed a TEDDY BEAR being dropped into one. They were trying to make a point about the cruelty of the traps, but doing it with a teddy bear was just ridiculous.

26. I saw it during Rachel's show too.
And early during the local news. I'm afraid we may be bombarded with this type of thing. Obama's explanations make sense to me, but we need to come up with a simple answer to this. Does it never happen? Is this a freak occurance? Remember that low-info voters don't know Barack & are being bombarded with this swill!
