A question to ask your reluctant friend who leans McCain |
|
Especially in the workplace.
For 100 years, right up to yesterday, every law or program that helped America's working class was passed by Democrats with labor's support and overcoming Republican opposition. Child Labor Laws, the right to organize, 5 day and 40 hour week, overtime pay, paid holidays, equal pay for women, Workmen's Comp., Unemployment benefits, Social Security, Medicare, safety standards in the workplace (OSHA), lunch breaks, guaranteed pay days, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and the list goes on.
Here's the question: In the last 100 years, name me one, just one law or program that Republicans have advocated that helped working Americans.

3. In this respect........ |
|
co-worker: "I don't know. I think I'd rather see MCCain win, he just seems more, I don't know, Presidential."
My response, "no working American should ever vote for a Republican for President, and here's why"
The rest is in the OP

4. OSHA was passed under Nixon. |
|
As incredible as it sounds today, Nixon's first term was not at all bad, and if you go back and look at what he did you realize that today's Republican Party would toss him right out. At least up until the Watergate break-in, and then he became the Nixon we all learned to despise.

5. In retrospect, it seems that Nixon didn't hate the |

American people nearly as much as the Repubs who came later.

8. Initiated by a Democratic Congress |
|
and Nixon was playing up to the AFL-CIO at the time. Meaney did not endorse in 1972.
Again, the issue is who writes the Bills and who sponsors it. It certainly wasn't Nixon's idea or the Republicans.
