what do you see when you look at Obama's campaign logo?

my first impression was a sunrise over our country, heralding in a new day, new beginnings.

this weekend, my partner and I watched 10,000 BC. It was an ok movie. But there was a line in the movie that has stuck with me.

in the movie, the old hunter was dying, the young hunter was unsure of himself and his ability to lead. the old hunter told him:

“A good man draws a circle around him, and in it he cares for his family, his wife and children. A great man draws a larger circle including his brothers, his friends, and protects them as he would his family. But then there is the rare man who has a special destiny. His circle extends beyond boundaries to include the world of innocents who lack the will to defend themselves.”

now when I look at that logo, I see the Rare Man, I see Obama whose circle extends beyond boundries to include all of us....

just had to share that with you

2. I see farm land, like rows.
I don't know why, but that's my interpretation, and I find it comforting and homey.

10. That's what I always see, too.
I was raised on a farm, so I guess that's why the rows look like a plowed field to me. I like it.

4. That's pretty much in line with what I see too.

Also the letter "O", the stripes of the flag that also look like the furrows of a plowed field, and the RWB color motif.

BTW, I don't reall having seen you around here much lately, Rad.

6. Most will never see the rare man, because they don't have eyes to see him.

And no, I'm not implying it's me. But I do know of one or two.

Obama is not the rare man. He is a great man, but the rare man would never make it anywhere near power. He is too untouchable and non-respectable for that.

Jesus was the rare man. There are others, even today.

7. I see a blue 'O' with red stripes. It's a nice logo though.
Logos don't inspire me. I get inspired by words and ideas....and that is what inspires me about Obama.

But I have a great magnet on the back of my car with this logo!

8. Well, uh ...
IF:

“A good man draws a circle around him, and in it he cares for his family, his wife and children. A great man draws a larger circle including his brothers, his friends, and protects them as he would his family. But then there is the rare man who has a special destiny. His circle extends beyond boundaries to include the world of innocents who lack the will to defend themselves.”

THEN:

Can one still choose to stand out side the Rare man's circle? Or must we all join the "innocents who lack the will'?

Frankly, that analogy kinda creeps me out. Sounds like a ... plantation. Or some cult compound.

I'd rather just have a lot of "good man" circles.

13. I think of Washington's "rising sun" chair at Independence Hall
Franklin said he often wondered whether it was a rising or setting sun, and finally decided it was rising

"I have often...in the course of this session...looked at that...without being able to tell whether it was rising or setting; but now at length I have the happiness to know that it is a rising and not a setting sun."

14. I saw nothing so lofty, unfortunately
It first reminded me of a target. I wandered what they were thinking when they designed it.

17. I see something I have never seen before.
Edited on Wed Sep-17-08 01:44 AM by ConsAreLiars
Has there ever been a logo that wasn't just a sleazy amalgamation of a name or two and some Red White and Blue Stars and Stripes crap?

This is very different from anything that we have seen before, and, for whatever reason, I like seeing it. Just a gut, "huh, that's neat/nice." It makes me half-way feel that some new thing, something better, might be possible.

(edit typo)
