Subliminal "message" in a McCain/Palin ad - is it just me?
I saw one of the McCain/Palin ads this morning when I had GMA on. At the end of the ad, they showed a photo of Sarah Palin to the LEFT of a photo of John McCain. The subliminal message I picked up from the ad was that the GOP wants everyone to see that Palin is at the top of the ticket. Am I reading more into this than is there?

1. Who the hell knows what dark intentions might lurk

in the recesses of a Republican PR operative's brain?

Edited to add--That's really putting a lot of eggs in the Palin basket. Events could yet shoot her down in flames, and the more McCain entangles his image with hers, the more prominence he gives her, the harder time he'll have bailing out (although of course he does have lots of experience baiing out).

4. Well I am taking this as reading left to right
Palin left of McCain strikes me as Palin being the top of the ticket. And having it juxtaposed with McCain/Palin on the ads is kind of a mixed message.

5. In some contexts, yes. The higher-ranking or senior person in the military
always walks to the tight of everyone else. Coming at you, then, theBig Cheese is always to your left.

9. well, then, Obama/Biden are sending the same message ?
I just did a google image check of Obama/Biden pics. There are multiple pics of Biden is on the "left" walking towards the camera.

I'm confused.

"Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."

10. is this one "right"
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/28/us/politics/28DEMSDAY.html

From the "camera/viewer's" position, Obama is on our right; Biden is on our left.

12. Nothing is left to chance
in these political ads. Even the blurry images streaming behind pics of candidates.

A few weeks ago, McCain ran an ad (actually it was the "celebrity" one) in which two separate pics of Obama were shown (just after pics of blondies Paris Hilton and Britney whoever) with frankly phallic monuments/structures . . . perhaps trying to induce the old "fear of the black man seducing our white wimmens" (my best Jesse Helms accent).

Since then, several of McCain's ads have featured images that seem to portray the same message. It's never outright stated, of course, but this sort of shit sticks in the brain, especially the brains of the Great Unwashed.

14. about as valid as me seeing a toilet tissue ad
where the "model" with the blue coloring was the "soft" version, and the "model" with the red coloring was the "strong" version ...

not missed was the fact that the brand donated large sums of money to Repukes ...
