5. Stilts only work for ordinary storms
The house that survived so dramatically on the peninsula looked like it had lally columns instead of wooden stilts. The wooden porch and stairs were torn off the side, though.

However, yeah, live in that dream house far inland. Realize anything you build on a hurricane prone coastline is only temporary and don't put in the things like the trophy kitchen and steam shower. Save those for the dream house you live in during the week.

7. I am not trying to be smarmy, I am so sorry for the devastation...
AND, I can't help but think about the amounts of ice that are melting in the oceans, and that this is how the land is reshaped by the water...

It will most likely be worse before it gets better...IF it gets better...
I may be living at beachfront property before it is all over, and I am in the Sierras!

8. The unfortunate truth is
that Galveston is a barrier island, and barrier islands are essentially temporary structures that are doomed to reshaping by natural forces. A strong hurricane is just a very quick reshaping.

Mother nature is violent. There are earthquakes, tornadoes, forest fires, and hurricanes, just to name a few natural occurrences that can destroy property and kill people.

When I lived in Colorado I learned that if you live in the mountains, you have to expect that if you're there long enough you're going to experience a forest fire. While I've never lived right on the ocean, I'd think a basic fact of that location is that eventually a devastating storm or hurricane will come along.

Something did not look right as I figured the two blue fronted houses were on the beach - -

They are not

They are THREE ROWS BACK.

IKE wiped out EVERYTHING two rows from the beach - and more

wow again,

just wow

so many lives ruined - -

And I'm still wondering about what we all have NOT seen yet

We all know how honest and forthright the USA's government is . .

Sad,

so sad
