Man! I'm glad I'm broke!
It must be pretty scary times for those of you with "wealth" invested in the capitalist economy right now.

In a weird way, not having anything (much) left is kind of a relief at the moment.

2. When chickens cost $10 each and bread is $7 a loaf, at least we'll have extra money
That's one good thing about savings. Even the freegans will have less to live on from the "capitalist economy".

3. we have little choice (although not zero choice) in this country
other than the capitalist economy.

It will be a tough winter for almost all of us I fear.

14. They won't have to take it, I will give it to them
Besides the rich are more likely to steal your money than the poor -- that's how they got rich.

4. I've never had faith in the market other than the savings and checking account that is necessary
Maybe after Obama reforms it, I'll have enough faith in it and will be confident to invest in the future if I have the funds for it.

But yeah, it's just so fucked up right now.

5. Sometimes it is good not to have any money to lose!!
I am still in the same leaky boat I have been in for the last 8 years, but at least it is my leaky boat.

6. My investments have gone up.
Just yesterday we threw a couple of pennies into the gallon jug on the kitchen counter. OP makes a great point. The stress level for us poor folk is significantly less than those formerly well off.

They have much more to lose.

17. "Fundamentals are sound"
According to Crash McCain - so you can bet that McCain will do more of the same. Just think of the disaster if he is elected.

I don't know why anyone would willingly want to run for President right now. They are being handed the keys to the Titanic as its back is about to break and sink. Good thing we've got someone with passion and a sense of integrity & honor on our side. I just hope the rest of the country wises up.

10. I don't think you understand who is paying for the bailout
we think we have nothing now, but our government is poised to take even the crumbs away, to prop up corporate "victims" of the housing and subprime crises. :(

11. I'm glad I sold all my stock in January
to pay down my debts. I may not have retirement savings, but hell, with the way things are going I doubt that I'll live long enough to retire anyway! At least I'm not losing more money in failing stocks and interest.

16. The best thing you can be is debt-free
We got off that merry-go-round 5 years ago, and never ever ever ever ever want to go back there..

It's such a great feeling to just pay cash for what we want, and never fear getting the mail:) if we don't have enough cash for what we want, we either wait, or start wanting something cheaper :)

18. I've been out of the stock market for a while - froze my 401k contributions yesterday
I stopped trading and investing back in Jan/Feb - when the signs were starting to show of the impending disaster. I froze my 401k contributions yesterday, weighing on pulling it all out before I lose what I have in it and moving it to the money market or other relatively "safe" investment options offshore. I'm young, so if things ever get better I have time to get back on board, but I'm not throwing more money into this wreck.
