McCain's "economy is sound" since 1776: historical speculation (feel free to add our own!)
McCain’s "our economy is sound" throughout history


1776 John McCain says our position within the British Empire was sound, and there was no justification for a revolution.

1803 John McCain says that our territorial position was sound, and the Louisiana Purchase was a waste of taxpayer money.

1812 John McCain says that British respect for our new republic was sound, and they would never attack us.

1841 John McCain says that William Henry Harrison's health was sound, and that he would recover to seek re-election.

1860 John McCain says that the Union is sound, and that the South would never secede.

1903 John McCain says that our system of using horses and trains is sound, and that experiment down in Kitty Hawk, NC, was a total waste of time.

1914 John McCain says that European political stability is sound, and that war will never break out.

1917 John McCain says that the Russian monarchy is sound, and that it will withstand any movement to overthrow it.

1920 John McCain says that Presidential integrity is sound, and that Warren G. Harding would never allow corruption in government.

1929 John McCain says the economy is sound, and that the stock market has nowhere to go but up.

1933 John McCain says Germany's budding democracy is sound, and is in no danger of being taken over by extremists.

1953 John McCain says that Republican Senator Joseph McCarthy’s information on Communist penetration of the American government is sound, and that McCarthy has plenty of decency.

1954 John McCain says that the French hold on Indochina is sound, and that we would never end up getting involved in any military conflict in the region.

1974 John McCain says that Richard Nixon’s explanation of his role in the Watergate scandals was sound, and that there was no reason for him to resign.

2004 John McCain says that Rove’s tactics for trashing him in 2000 were sound, and that they were a model for any future campaigns he might wage.

2008 John McCain says the economy is sound, says the choice of his candidate for VP was sound, and that his ability to make rational statements and decisions was still intact.
